Do All Liquids Evaporate The Fastest?
Do all liquids evaporate? What would happen if liquids never evaporated? Do we know which liquid evaporates the fastest? Could we perhaps use this knowledge to change the everyday processes? The process of evaporation happens much differently than scientists once thought. Every liquid eventually evaporates and often what remains is the solid particles which were once part of the solution. Evaporation is very important: “it shapes the climate of the planet, it affects the cost of car travel, and is one of the most important factors in controlling the temperature of the human body.” Evaporation happens when a liquid substance becomes a gas. When water evaporates, it stays in the air as a gas. Once water evaporates, it also helps form clouds. The clouds then release the moisture as rain or snow, and sometimes hail. The liquid water falls to Earth, which eventually will evaporate. The evaporation cycle will then start all over again. Many factors affect how evaporation happens. If the air is already thick or saturated, there won't be enough space in the air for liquid to evaporate quickly. When the humidity is at one hundred percent, the air is coated with water. No further water can evaporate when at one hundred percent humidity. If air pressure is high on the surface of the ocean, then the water will not evaporate easily. “The pressure pushing down on the water makes it difficult for water to escape into the atmosphere as gas.” Storms although harmful can be credited with preventing evaporation. Temperature plays a large role factor in how quickly evaporation occurs. Boiling water will evaporate quickly as steam due to the heat and often low humidity in the air conditioned home. Evaporation is the opposite of condensation, the process of a gas turning into liquid water. Surface molecules escape as they pick up energy from the liquid. The liquids used will be similar in density with the exception of orange juice which contains pulp, aka solids. The researcher set out with the knowledge as it relates to the environment and the effects of evaporation but expressly desired to learn more about evaporation rates of various and how they might affect the strength or potency of a solution due to evaporation rates. For instance, if medication was a solution of synthetic products like antibiotics properties and water or alcohol and the liquid evaporated leaving the remaining ingredients to be far more potent per milliliter than the manufacturer intended. Taking a dose following evaporation of liquid would completely change the amount intended for consumption. The researcher seeks to keep in mind the importance of water in particular as it relates to the evaporation cycle. The researcher respects the fact that if water never evaporated, there would be no rain because rain clouds could never form. If there was no rain, there would likely be no water for consumption. Thus, the study and importance of evaporation in medications would be of little concern if humans were void water or it became scarce. That would mean humans couldn’t evolve and survive on Earth. In conclusion, the researcher intends to proceed with experimentation as it relates to various common liquids, including H2O, and its evaporation effects over time. The
