Why I Selected My Major
I'd like to begin this essay with a very important yet deep understanding intended to portray
how my life experiences caused me to select my major, also allowing you to understand not just
how personal; but how determined and excited I am to master my major and begin working with
other trauma victims such as myself.
I chose addictions or Clinical Counselor as my major. So to help you understand the causes
that effected why I made my decision, I'd like to begin with my childhood. Even though it was
very traumatic and involved an extremely high level of sexual, mental and physical abuse; something
inside me continued to stay alive and move forward never mistaking the fact that these things which
were happening as well as the traumatizing events of my Mother's making were not right or
natural. To put it simply my heart and mind recognized this fact and never allowed me to mistake the
the fact that all these events were wrong, in any and every way possible the facts remained this life
was not a natural and most certainly not a normal way of life. Yet as an unknowing child whom
never knew another way my heart always told me different. My Mother was an addict and alcoholic.
Yet I loved her regardless. She passed on at 48 years of age because of her addictions effects on
her body. Cirrhosis was the cause of death. Come to find out the Dr. told her every six
months for two years preceding her death that if she did not quit drinking she would in fact be
be dead within two years. Obviously her addiction was in control and this is a prime
