Make-up, hair extensions, teased hairstyles, clouds of hairspray, flippers (fake teeth), sophisticated costumes, screaming crowds (mostly mothers), weird postures, twitched face expressions, tiaras, trophies, money and more or less talent are the ingredients for the usual children beauty pageants, along with exercised smiles and hysterical crying and outbursts.
I stand before you today to address you on a subject which concerns manly the girls and the women in the room, a subject that impinges on our time and could possible on our future; the beauty contests, the bane that they cause and the mothers that apply false eye lashes on to children less than five years old and over.
My personal opinion is that beauty contests do degrade womanhood and here are my reasons why:
• Because you can get weird people around and dressing your baby girl in a costume and ridiculous hair and makeup might not be safe for your little girl.
• Because to send a baby, girl or women into a contest to be graded on appearance is terrible, everyone is beautiful from the inside out.
Just think to yourselves would you like to send your daughter into one of these contests to be rated on their appearance, to go and pay thousands for dresses and shoes to have to make your child dress in some cases what looks too inappropriate for their age ?
