Music has been known to express ideas in human emotion; music can be a release from the hectic world. But people in the 50's did not sit back and relax to the sound of "Feel It N*gga" by 50 cent. In fact, the type of songs that 50 cent sings is far from what people in the 50's used to listen to. Even though some elements of music haven't changed such as pace and sentimentality in love songs, many styles of music have evolved into more aggressive lyrics and/or very explicit and vulgar wording to fit some American cultures in the year 2006. Words like "nigger", the involvement of sexual intercourse, and the presence of violence has manifested itself into songs today, unlike the older musical generation.…
Many people, even today feel as though morals should be included in everything that people do. Rap music has always had explicit language but 2 Live Crew was never vague and never felt that they had to cover anything up or make it sound more clean than it really was. They felt that the First Amendment backed them up and made it okay for them to say whatever it is they wanted to say. This text focuses on how people interpret the music rather than what it says. Many people interpret things different ways. People make assumptions of what words mean instead of studying these words.…

Rap music does not contribute to a form of corruption of moral character. Rap music has come a long way and has been shaped by different skills of various rappers who reflect a blend of elements into fascinating wordplay. It has become very popular among young people; they listen to it as a form of entertainment and rap songs have helped many people through tough times the same way Johnny Cash and country music helps people. Music is music everyone has their own preference. Rap music can help people build a positive character; for instance, a rap song…
I listen to music every day of my life. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. My current mood determines what type of music I listen to. For example, in the morning, I like to start my day off with something slow and calm. This usually jazz music with its soft and mellow tones. Then later in the day, I prefer to listen to rap music. It really helps me get excited. This helps me when I am in the gym, especially the sound of the loud bass and tones. I tend to calm down after a long day of activities. I sooth my mood with slow, mellow, and calm music. This really helps my body and mind relax after a long day of work. In conclusion, Jazz, Rap, and R&B are very powerful different types of music, each having its own different style and background.…
Music Lyrics being NON-VIOLENT Rap music can be considered a style of art, and a way for the artists to express feelings through their words on paper. However, there are quite a few rap artists that get criticized for their lyrics. In my essay, I want to discuss why rappers use certain lyrics in their music and why people shouldn’t believe that it causes violence among the younger generations. People shouldn’t censor the music just because of violent, vulgar and abusive messages it promotes to the world. I believe in my own mind, that there is a reason for these types of lyrics that rap artists use and I will simply explain those reasons in this essay. Rap has been called one of the most important music forces to emerge in two decades. It’s pounding beats and staccato rhymes exploded on the streets of the urban America in the early 1980s and since have become the theme music and lyrical heart of the vibrant youth culture called hip-hop ( SIRS 1993). There are many different types of rap artist. There are some that talk about money, some talk about righteousness, and the list goes on and on. Every rap artist had their own way of expressing themselves. There are those that talk about sex, drugs, and violence who receive the negative attention( SIRS 1993). People, think this so- called gangster rap is a bad influence on children in the world and that it promotes violence and that it also is abusive to women. Delores Tucker, head of national congress of black women has been among those pressuring different record companies to stop distributing gangster rap music. There were other significant names that participated in this action. Names like Senate Majority leader Bob dole, and former education Secretary William J. Bennett(Surveys, pg. 1). There are some rap artists that have been openly criticized for their lyrics. Rappers like Lil Kim, Too Short, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and a member from “Too Live Crew,” named Luke Skywalker. These rap artists in the past have been…
Kids that do not have someone that provides moral support to depend on, tend to be more vulnerable to fall for the negative influence of the rock and rap violent lyrics. Kids that do not have a parental figure or an exemplary role model are being raised by the aggressive lyrics of rap or rock music. The fans that fall under the influence of the violent music lyrics are the ones that suffer the consequence and not the artists. The artist say, “It’s just entertainment,” when in reality “it‘s parenting.”(Moultry, P.J. (2007, Nov). Parents should control their kids on what type of music they listen to and explain what is right and wrong.…
Since the mid 1980’s, collective efforts to define deviant music have focused increasingly on two genres heavy metal and rap music. Most of these claims assert that heavy metal and rap music represent a type of audio pornography that endorses sexist, violent and anti religious behaviors. Musical genres such as jazz and blues and the rock and roll of 1940’s and 1950’s were believed to have contributed to teenager’s moral disintegration. In addition to rock music, performers of newer popular styles, particularly heavy metal and rap, have recently come under attack for their perceived potential to negatively influence young audiences. In a 1985 standing room only United State senate hearing, several prominent political families rallied testimony to the harmful effects of pornography and violence present in the lyrics of heavy metal music. Rap music was lambasted just five years later when a recording by a group called 2 live crew was declared obscene by a federal court in Florida and the members of the band were arrested.…
Ever since music became a big thing in teen’s lives, there has been controversy around the idea that kids should not be exposed to some lyrics because of how it influences them. From rock and roll and metal, to pop, rap, and hip hop, there are, and always will be lyrics out there that are not always appropriate or anything that children should be listening to.There has been an issue with song lyrics being blamed for causing teen’s rebellious, or irresponsible actions, but there has never been anything that can strongly support the idea.…
Over the past several years, hip-hop's/music standing has been tumbling. Criticizers of the genre often arguably point at the extreme cursing, degradation of women, and adoration of the "gangsta" lifestyle as major flaw in rap songwriting. However, it is important that these characteristics only describe a small section of hip-hop. Most rap songs are actually very poetic, as they feature the rhythms and verses, poetic devices, and themes that are crucial elements of traditional poetry. Many rappers use the rhythms and rhyme schemes that are characteristic of poetry in their songwriting. Today’s generation expresses of love, death, self-expression, personal, political, and social issues, poverty and riches, and life involvements. They entwine these thoughts artistically and creatively within strong rhythms and captivating tunes that capture the minds of the listener. The mind-set of today’s adolescence can be found within the lyrics of the music that they listen to.…
Have you ever listened to or overheard a rap song and thought about how vulgar it was and wonder how something like that ever made it to the public? Well if you think rap music has a negative influence on people, you're not alone. Since the late 1980's rap music has been called the Anti Christ in our culture, because of it's so-called influence in people's life. People swear up and down that the music is why people, especially the youth resort to violent crimes. Rap is defined as a style of popular music consisting of improvised rhymes performed to a rhythmic accompaniment. It didn't really become popular until the early 80's. Over the years it has become mainstream music, everyone is listening to it. In 1989 a local group called N.W.A.(Niggaz Wit Attitudes) came from out of L.A. and changed rap, which was the start of Gangsta Rap.…
If you actually listen to rap music almost all the songs/lyrics have a meaning to it.Hip Hop music is a different type of poetry, with that being said not everything that a rapper or an artist says is supposed to be taken literal.I just dont understand whats wrong about someone expressing how they feel or something they've experienced.Hip Hop is just a way to do that, it's a different type of culture.Hip Hop brings that vibe that no other genre of music bring, people always see hip hop as negative but the same people…
Music expresses and affects emotion; it has the power to move a grown man to tears, to trigger thoughts, to invoke joy, sorrow, anger or love. Music can manipulate the emotions and incite immoral thoughts or actions. By nature, music is morally neutral and a good. Over time however, immorality has seeped into the music industry, leading to music which is immoral. Music has begun to glorify sex and to embrace immorality as a good. Hundreds of new songs and genres are contain lyrics and rhythm which lead to immorality. However, that does not mean that all music or specific types of music are immoral. Musical genres are morally neutral categories, and only individual songs can possess qualities that are immoral.…
For example, if someone is upset they will listen to something that will get them into a better mood, perhaps something mellow or soft. If they are happy, they will listen to something that is more energetic, and so on. After I interviewed four people--friends and family--I found out what type of music they listened to when they are upset, angry, or calm. Music touches people's souls, and gets the best or worst out of them.…
Death, corruption, degradation: these are three main characteristics and values that have become accustomed to this present century. Many lyrics in today’s mainstream music aren’t associated with current events and problems; they focus on being materialistic and giving details about intercourse. Sayings like “SWAG”, “YOLO” and “3hunna” are staples in youth’s vocabulary, even though it sounds like mindless dribble. Kids today are seen as “unengaged” and “bored” with the world but why? What’s popular today are reality shows, easy to operate “smart phones” that make “dumb people” and music that promotes topics that aren’t so proactive. Does the government seem to notice however? In the 1980’s the “Parents Music Resource Center” pushed the government extensively to ban “obscene lyrics in rock music”(L.A. Times, Deborah Caulfield). The government’s absence when coming to advocating quality entertainment seems to part of something bigger. Trends set today are ones that are setting us up for a lousy future and the ones who “run” America, are feeding off it.…
