Unfortunately people objected to the mistreatments of human beings being forced to work in terrible conditions with no compensation. In order to ease the oppositions worries, Portugueses leaders demonized african people and preached that the divide between caucasians and africans was about superiority and appeasement to God (United Nations). This divide made it okay to many 15h century people to have african slaves since they were seen as work dogs rather than actual human beings. The divide created has carried on into the modern world, as African Americans fight to gain their civil liberties and rights from people who still view them as work dogs rather than their equals. The concepts instilled in the ancestors of european people have existed throughout centuries as our background knowledge of how the world should be. Those concepts have sadly hurt modern African Americans as they are discriminated against Although, we use the concepts we are given, we sometimes never accept them. In 18th century England, politician William Wilberforce, rejected the ideals of superiority his father had taught him and led the movement to abolish Great Britain’s Slave Trade
