Video games are part of a lot of people’s daily lives. But has anyone ever thought of what they actually do to you? The experiment that will be conducted will answer this question: How does playing video games affect your heart rate? If playing video games causes your heart to beat faster, then they can help someone who has an abnormally slow heart rate. This experiment may help people with heart rate problems to increase/decrease their heart rate. (whatever the results of the tests are). A lot of people think that video games are bad for you, but this experiment could change their minds. Video games: are they a waste of time or a lifesaver? Now, let’s get to know the heart a bit better. “The atria and ventricles work together, alternately contracting and relaxing to pump blood through your heart. The electrical system of your heart is the power source that makes this possible,” (Cleveland Clinic). Apparently, the heart beats because of electricity running through it. When the heart beats, blood is sent throughout the entire body. It’s not only important to know why your heart beats, but also how to take a pulse. To take a pulse, put your index and middle fingers around the vein below your wrist (this may take some adjusting). Wait, and count the amount of beats there are in 1 minute. The number of beats is your “beats per minute”, or BPM for short. This experiment affects me because because I like to play video games. I figured it would be fun to do a science fair project about them. Also, some people say that video games are bad for you. This could be used as an argument to say that they could actually save lives.     Video games are becoming a common modern element in today 's society, and while their popularity grows, so does the need to research their psychological effects on the player.
