The documentaries of Being Mortal was very interesting. I learned that doctors wear multiple hats. They are not only doctors, but they are counselors, problem solvers and team players. Doctors are taught to be optimistic. They are always looking for ways to fix a problem and keep the hope alive. It is their job to to find solutions to illness and not give up hope. Doctors are not taught how to deal with the problems that can't be fixed like aging or death. One doctor in the documentary stated that conversations about death should come before a patient has a week to live, but the natural time is when a crisis come, but thats too late. Conversation about death are difficult to have and thats why they are put off until necessary.…

In Don DeLillo’s novel, White Noise, the Gladney family believes that doctors have a higher authority because of their greater knowledge. In addition, the family is also very threatened by the doctors because they feel they are more intelligent and that they have some sort of control over them. For instance, Jack Gladney is especially affected by their power of the doctors after the “airborne toxic event” and when he is exposed to Nyodene Derivative. Out of everyone in the family, Jack demonstrates the he is the most afraid, particularly, because of the information that they hold. Because of their high authority, the doctors are able to make Jack to feel unintelligent and defenseless. Moreover, they make him feel as if his life is in their hands and he is unable to do anything about it.…

One of the highlights of the episode was when discussing how hospitals in Australia can be improved to be better than those in Nauru, Shaun calls for the incompetent doctor from earlier for her insights on the topic. This scene was very entertaining for viewers because of the irony in the story. It was very tongue-in-cheek to see the doctor who was previously seen being insensitive towards patient’s needs acting as a panellist giving her view on how hospital care should be…

One characteristic of both men is that they were family-oriented: Dr. V worked as a dedicated surgeon and he continued to be the normal family man and villager that he was; “Dr. V is simultaneously the fellow villager that he once was, and continues to be, and the extraordinary healer he has become” (Dass 6). Dr. V felt that despite being the founder of a large hospital he was still the normal villager he used to be and continued to be. He continued to dedicate a large portion of his time…

Doctor Who was designed by Sydney Newman, the director of the BBC in 1963, who was faced with a dilemma. He was to produce a program for the family audience, which could be played between a sports programme, Grandstand, and a teen pop music programme, Jukebox Jury. Newman wanted the programme to entertain and educate people at the same time, in the ways of science and history. Newman, himself an adamant science-fiction fan, came up with the idea of a man, whom the people know little of, who travels around the cosmos in his 1960’s blue police box, his TARDIS. However, he needed some way to get the information from the Doctor to the public. Thus he created the companion, a normal person who accompanies the Doctor on his travels. He would introduce them in the first episodes, such as “Rose” and “An Unearthly Child”. 60’s audiences needed a programme that was not only entertaining, but also educational, since the whole family was to watch it. It also had to be appropriate for children to watch. Many families complained that the show was too frightening and gory. In fact, interest declined greatly if the Daleks did not feature in an episode. However, towards the late 1980s, interest bottomed out completely. The director of the programme at the time decided to take it off air. In 2005, we wanted shows that could make us ask questions, gave us an adrenaline rush or related to real life. Our expectations of television shows, especially in science-fiction and film, have risen with the new technology and special effects that can be used in a programme or film. Therefore, “Rose” uses special effects…

Later on in the show, the complexity of the scenarios in which the characters are placed in become more in depth but also very recognizeable to us as people going about our daily lives. We see first hand how our main character deals with these new relationships, and the widely different life styles that all the characters he lives with have. In a way, this is very similar to my own experience of getting my first job, I learned and dealt with many different individuals than myself and worked with a large variety of different individuals all of which were much different than…

Norman shows how he began the process of healing, even before moving out of the hospital. He found that after watching only ten minutes of a humorous movie, he got two hours of pain free sleep; he would also have nurses read to him out of humor books. Norman found that laughing and positive emotions did in fact affect the body’s chemistry, and enhance the system’s ability to fight off disease, or inflammation.…

Curiosity and the occupation of a medical provider has always struck me as being closely tied with one another. At a young age, I witnessed my paternal grandfather who was general practice physician growing old and becoming frail as his days passed. He would always enjoy showing me interesting things he had used from his medical practice. He would also share with me the hobbies that he was passionate about. I cherished his company and looked forward to visiting him every time I had the opportunity.…

We were told to watch a film from the Film Festival event in Edsa Shangrila Mall. We could choose any of films they’ll be showing. At first, I wanted to watch the Film, “About Her Brother”. I didn’t get the chance to do so, cause I won’t have any time to watch the said film cause of the schedule it’ll be shown doesn’t match with my free time. I got there late last Sunday afternoon. I only get to watch Japan: My Hometown and Dear Doctor. From those two Films, I really love how the story goes in dear doctor. It started with a sweet slow blues guitar and then a very slow yet creative way of playing the harmonica. That sweet sound really catches my attention and then a man on a motorcycle, driving in a dark black night all wiggly as if he’s drunk. When I saw the man, I thought he was the doctor. And then I saw him pick up a Lab gown or something like that, that doctor’s uses. By that time, I really thought he’s the doctor there. He just dropped his clothes in the middle of the road, but the next scene makes me think otherwise. When he was told that the doctor went missing. I wasn’t that interested on this part because the setting was dark and I can’t see much. Even if that was the case, I do understand that the doctor was in fact missing and a search party (the police) was there on the case in finding the missing doctor. I thought to myself, why would the doctor run away? A lot of people were crying because of his disappearance. And when the two policeman look on his background, he’s being paid around 200,000 yen for his service in their small town. It doesn’t really make sense why would someone just disappear like that with that amount of payment for his service. So, I thought he was killed. The next seen is one guy went on the field where the man found the doctor’s white clothes. Searching for something or searching for the doctor. And the policeman look on the photo of the doctor with the staff on the hospital he’s working in. And then, flashback came in a red BMW…
