Why study the doctrine of Satan?
Simply we need to know our enemy. The best team in sports always know their opponents strengths and weaknesses just as good as theirs.
Revelation 12, Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28
Vs. 1-5: is Satan’s Past history. And vs. 7-17 is Satan’s Future Failures!
Who is Satan??
- Satan is “an angel created by God, who served God, until he rebelled against God, and now he opposes God in every way.”
- Again let me be clear, Satan is not a guy dressed in a red suit with a pitchfork. He’s absolutely not that. Get that image out of your mind. Satan is an angel. He’s spiritual. Not necessarily a physical bodies like us. He has Personal, intellectual, and emotional capacities. He’s …show more content…
Powerful.
- Satan is not all powerful, he’s not all knowing, he’s smart and intuitive, but not all knowing, and he can’t be everywhere at once…
- He’s limited in time space and in knowledge.
- Now let me give you some of his names…
He’s called… the prince of this world, the accuser of Christians, the serpent, a dragon, An angel of light in 2 Corinthians 11, this means he can appear to be a good angel, or something holy, but he’s wicked… think of the angel morni who appeared to Joseph Smith, as an angel and deceived him… he’s the destroyer, He’s a murderer from the beginning, he’s a liar, there is no truth in him.” He’s the tempter. He’s like a lion seeking whom he may devour, he blinds unbelievers, he’s a oppressor, and he’s deceiver…
What does Satan do?
He opposes the work of God on earth. - Mark 4:15
He blinds people to the gospel. - 2 Corinthians 4:4
He looks for opportunities to take advantage of us. - Ephesians 4:27
He creates hardships for messengers of the gospel. - 2 Corinthians 12:7
He seeks to destroy you, and kill you, eternally. - 1 Peter 5:8
Listen Satan wants to destroy your joy, your family your purity, your happiness, everything!
Satan is very real, and ruthless… he’s described as a dragon..
Revelation 1-5 !
- And there are 2 places in the Bible that talk about Satan’s beginning, and where he went wrong… And I want you to turn with me to those 2 places… Isaiah 14, and we’ll look at Ezekiel 28, but first Isaiah 14… This in a lot of ways is the doctrine of Satan…
(Isaiah 14:12-16)
- You see Satan’s original name was Lucifer, or day star, or shining star, or morning star, mega star, or super star, many believe none shone brighter than Satan… He was Lucifer, it was a great name to have…
- And Lucifer had an eye problem… There’s 5 I will’s, I will ascend, I will be worshiped, I will be like God, the Most High he said…
- You see Satan had an “I” problem.
He wanted it to be about him, and we see that Satan’s downfall was pride, and that’s why Pride can be such a problem… Me, I, I want people to praise me, and acknowledge me… And it begins with an I problem. We look inward, but we need to look …show more content…
upward.
- And according to vs.
16…. We’re going to look at him, this is the guy, that did that, that made the world…
- So what happened to Lucifer? How did he fall? Pride filled his heart… Ezekiel 28 sheds some more light on it… Turn to Ezekiel 28…
(Read Ezekiel 28:12-17)
- It was about Satan. He was in the garden of Eden it says
- And so he was kicked out of heaven because he launched a prideful rebellion… and it says he was cast to the ground… [The destiny of Satan is hell, in Matthew 25:41 it says, God made hell for Satan and his angels, that was and is his destiny, it was not originated for us, but people will end up here…]
Back to Revelation 12…
- And so 33 percent of the angels went with him… and these angels are now known as demons they’re the one’s who followed Satan in his rebellion…
- Same problem with eve, do you want to be made like God?
[2 chron 20 Jehoshaphat was surrounded by the Edomites, and he sent the band into the battle… there is power in praise, the enemy is defeated, the enemy is losing….]
- And these Angels are very deceiving, angels who were in the presences of God, and saw his glory, ended up following
Satan….
- Now important to understand, if a third of the angels followed Satan, that means theirs 2 thirds that are still with God, and remained faithful, and God is God, and unmatched, and He can do what He wants to, if He wants to create more angels He can…
(Read vs. 7-12)
- So Satan is cast out, now look at vs. 10…
(Read vs. 10-11)
- How did they over come Satan?? How did they overcome his accusations, and condemnation? And how do we overcome Satan? And his accusations and condemnation… Listen there’s 3 points, there 3 things these people did to overcome Satan, and we see this in vs. 11… And how do we overcome Satan?
#1. The Blood of the Lamb
- We overcome Satan and his accusations, and the condemnations we feel in life, by the blood of Jesus…
- Listen Satan is called the Accuser of the brethren in vs. 9. Meaning day and night he accuses Christians…
[Now who is he accusing I believe it’s you and me… Why?
Remember the rapture already happened, and 2 Corinthians 5 says we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ… we Christians will stand before the judgment seat of Christ, and we’re not judged for our sins, but it’s more of a reward time, if you rewards or not… So the rapture happens, and we’re in heaven, and we’re at the bema seat of Christ, and some say guess who’s going to be there accusing? Satan! He’ll be like… “What, I cant believe you’re giving bob a crown, Jonah really he gets one, and he will be there accusing…. but it says they overcame him by the blood of the lamb.
How do we overcome satan?
The blood of the lamb]
- You know do you ever feel like you can’t read the Bible or pray, or go on mission trips, because you’re not a good Christian, and you’ve sinned to much and it would be hypocritical of you to pray, or read right now, because God’s mad at you because of all the awful things you’ve done… That’s condemnation, that’s from Satan, that’s one of his accusations…
- Listen Satan condemns us day and night… and condemnation will always push you away from Jesus, and if you feel like you can never come to Jesus, know that that is not Jesus that’s Satan… Conviction on the other hand, makes me want to go to Jesus after I sinned, it makes me want to get right with God… But condemnation pushes you away from Jesus…
- And the way to over come it is by the blood of the Lamb. It’s by the blood of Jesus…
- Now what does that look like? [Let me ask you a question, do you ever read the Bible, and you get the answer and go, “o.k. practically what does that look like? So I overcome Satan, by the blood of the Lamb, but what does that look like?” You know what I mean…]
- Here’s the idea: His Victory is your Victory! (Repeat)
- You see you overcome that sense of condemnation, and I can’t pray, and I can’t read, by pleading the blood of Jesus, by remembering, Jesus shed his blood, Jesus died, and conquered sin, and forgave me, and gave me His perfect life, and because His blood is shed I am free and I am forgiven. And His victory is my Victory.
[And it’s not that His literal blood was magical, so that if his blood splattered on the soldiers they got saved… no. The blood speaks to us of the real, physical death of Jesus Christ in our place, on our behalf, before God.]
- You see Satan is our accuser, but we have an advocate, we have a lawyer we have a defense attorney, and that’s Jesus… 1 John 2:1 says, “…If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
He’s our Advocate, He defends us, He reminds us that we’re forgiven… Listen when Satan accuses you, agree with him, but then plea the blood!
[ - You see this is how you overcome sin and strongholds in your life, it’s the blood of Jesus… Charles Spurgeon said… “these saints used the doctrine of atonement not as a pillow to rest their weariness, but as a weapon to subdue their sin.” You see the blood of Jesus should be a weapon we use in our lives to overcome those strongholds, and sin we deal with…]
- Listen what can wash away my sin??? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!!! You can’t do it, listen going to church, and being in a home group, and serving, and going on mission trips, those things are good, but that’s now how you overcome Satan… it’s the blood of the lamb…
- You see you will fail, and you will mess up, and Satan will make you think you’re not worthy, and you shouldn’t go to church or pray, and you can’t read your bible,
and God is mad at you, no not true, there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…
- Listen you defeat sin, and bondage to sin, not by your good works but by the blood of Jesus…
[Remember in the book of exodus… The blood of the lamb had to be applied to the door…
[And the more you plead the blood the more it makes us want to avoid sin. “Satan makes sin seem pleasurable, but the cross reveals its bitterness. If Jesus died because of sin, men begin to see that sin must be a murderous thing.” You get it, if you realize Jesus died because of your sin, it makes you want to avoid sin, as much as possible… (Spurgeon)]
#2. How did they over Satan???
#2. The word of their Testimony
- You know like David, you can say God has lifted me up out of this pit… He has given me life… You see there is so much power in your testimony, think of all the testimonies Jesus left people, I once was blind but now I see, I once was sick but now I’m healed, or for us, I once had no hope, and was on my way to hell, now I have hope, and I’m on my way to Heaven… You see there is power in a testimony…
- And I’ve talked to many of you, and I know many of you are young, and you haven’t had some crazy wild past, and you’ve told me, I don’t think I have a testimony… (sad voice)… Are you kidding me??? What better of a testimony than at a young age I found Jesus or really Jesus found me, and I’ve tasted and seen that the Lord is good, and I’ve never seen anything better out there than Jesus and what He has to offer!!!! Amen… You don’t have a testimony… c’mon… Jesus is my testimony, He’s my story, I now have an eternal meaning and purpose…
- You know if you study every cult and every other religion, it’s about what you do, you need to do something, all other religious systems its man reaching up I can do it, I can reach up, I have the knowledge, but with Christianity, its I once was lost but now I’m found, he found me, he did it all, it was by his grace, and it’s your story, its saying I had no hope, but now Jesus is my hope I was saved by grace, and I will continue in grace… whatever you want Lord, I want your grace, I can’t do it without you.. grace is not just the beginning point it’s the only point the gospel is not just the beginning point, it’s the only point continue with the gospel…
- You know when someone gets saved they can’t help, but share. And is that you is there passion in your life for Jesus, and are you telling others about Him…
- You see a testimony is so powerful…
[Paul in the book of acts gives his testimony a few times, you know he’s before these wise men, and he was one of the wisest men, but he uses his testimony..
Think of the lame man who walked, and he used his testimony…]
- And #3… How did they overcome Satan???
#3. They did not love their lives to the death.
- You see overcoming the devil means you love the Lord More, and are faithful to Him, even if that means death… literal death…
- You see they weren’t into themselves, they weren’t focused on them, they weren’t living for them, they were living for Him.
- You know Paul said, I die daily!! You see it’s not about loving you and living for you,
Jesus said if you want to live you must die, and if you die you will live,
- You see overcoming the enemy means you know your life belongs to God!
- Listen!!! We don’t decide those two dates on the tombstone, but what are we doing with that little dash in the middle…
- Now listen maybe some of you here are here with a heavy heart… and you didn’t even want to come church makes you feel uncomfortable, you don’t fell like you’re worthy… listen you’re not worthy… lets just get that out of the way… but lets address the real problem, you’re in need your separated from God, and no one should be here but we can be because of what Jesus has done…
- Listen guys, if there is sin, and strongholds in your life, and you feel condemned and like you can’t get out… Plead the Blood of Jesus… Because His blood was shed you can live! And share that with the World… and don’t love your life, that’s how you overcome Satan.
- So Satan is overcome, and casted to the earth…
- And we’ll read the last few vs’s and we’ll end…
(Read vs. 13-17)
(Ask in the middle of vs. 14 how long is a time times and a half of time, it’s 3 and a half years… a time is 1, times 2, and a half a half a yr… so 3 and a half yrs…)
- So this woman, or Israel, is being persecuted by the anti-Christ, and so wings of an eagle take her into the wilderness for 3 and a half years…
- Now really quick, people want to know all the time… is America in Bible prophecy??? And there are some who think that this Eagle speaks of America, who will swoop down, in the middle of the tribulation and take some Jews who are being persecuted by the antichrist, and bring them into the desert…
- Now personally I think that’s a big stretch, I don’t think this is America at all, I don’t think we’re in Bible prophecy specifically…
[- And in ex 19 when Israel was being chased, and God says see how I have bore you on eagles wings, its not literal eagles wings, but God bore them in some way…]
- But God will deliver them in some way…. The antichrist gets mad, and somehow causes a flood to come up against Israel whether that’s a literal flood, or a war of some sort, but the earth opens up swallows up this “flood” and Israel is saved… and this is not the only time the earth is opened up to swallow up a rebellion, Maybe you’ve heard of Korah in the book of Numbers…
- And so the antichrist get’s mad, and he decides to take out his wrath on Jewish believers vs. 17 says….
But last thought
- Listen the Devil is going down… and if you’re not with Christ you’re going done, as well, Jesus says you’re either with him or against Him, well not me, I’m the master of my own fate, you’re an idiot… Jesus is the one calling the shots… Get right with him…..
