Characteristics of the ideal teacher
By:
April Daniel
When I think about the term ideal teacher I automatically think of one person, Mr. Bob Bales. Many people believe a teaching degree means perfect teacher and that certainly isn't the case. Communication is the biggest part when it comes to forming lasting bonds. Being involved, enthusiastic, and setting high expectations for students are within the most important of an ideal teacher. Many teachers get criticized for doing their job. It takes a strong willed individual to get into this occupation, so why is it the most underpaid?
* The first characteristic necessary in being the ideal teacher is being involved. Teachers will become like second parents to many students in their career, so being involved is crucial. When you think of a teacher, many assume the only thing they can be involved in is standing in front of a classroom and giving homework, this is certainly not the case. For instance, teachers know they may be faced with a student who is having a hard time at home, such as being abused and in many cases have no-one else to turn to. The ideal teacher makes it a point to get involved so that any student feels confident enough that they can talk to their teacher. When I was in school I hit the age that I thought I knew everything and was getting into trouble, I look back now and thank god that I had some outstanding teachers who helped me through.
* The second characteristic for the ideal teacher would be enthusiastic. No student wants to come to school and have a teacher who drags around and basically doesn't want to be there. You may always have that certain teacher you see who just comes in, is very serious and that’s all. In my eyes an ideal teacher will come up with anything to make sure their students learn. For example, I remember being taught about the presidents in history class and every single day my teacher would dress up as a different president which was fun and that made us ten times more focused and eager to learn. I appreciate it now that I'm older because it’s something that stuck with me.
* The final characteristic ideal teachers have is the setting of high expectations. Most individuals who decide to become teachers had someone who believed in them when they were growing up and now they want to pass it on to others. There is no greater compliment for a teacher than to see their students succeed. Ideal teachers will teach her students that no matter what they set their mind to anything is possible. One thing I praise the teachers of Manchester High School for is the fact that they will do everything they can to keep up with their previous students to see if they are on the right track. I have a teacher from high school, Mr. Ray who has constantly messaged me to see how I was doing and I've been out of school for 10 years. All a student truly wants to know is that someone believes in them and the ideal teacher will make sure that her students know it.
All in all ideal teachers are few and far between. You can consider yourself mighty lucky if you find a teacher with all of the characteristics I've named above. Being involved, enthusiastic, and setting high expectations are among the best. Everyone thinks differently when it comes to their special teacher. All teachers ideal or not come to work everyday to teach students the things that they have mastered, it is a very underpaid career but the reward is substantial.

Communication is one of the most important aspects of working in a team based setting. Daily tasks will not be able to be completed to a high standard if people do not fully understand what is expected of them, just as a manager cannot expect her staff to perform to their full potential if communication is flawed. It is not just verbal communication that takes a vital role non-verbal communication is just as important especially when working with children, young people and their families. Tone of voice, facial expressions and body language are all things that could aid or hinder something you are trying to tell a child, parent or even an adult in your team. To make sure I make progress within my role I will need to be confident and able to express my own needs and wants as well as being able to listen to others and speak up if I do not fully understand what is being asked of me.…

The most important qualities of an outstanding educator are those that improve teaching and enhance student learning. There are several qualities that an educator should possess in order to be an outstanding educator; however, one of the most significant qualities that an educator should possess is caring about his/her job. If a teacher does not genuinely care about teaching, his/her ideas and knowledge will never be put into place. Without caring about improvement, his/her students, and content knowledge, no other qualities will matter. The most powerful quality of an outstanding educator is the ability to be flexible and reflect on his/her own teaching in order to enhance learning for all students.…
