Lesson 14
Earth Science 1
Global Warming Global warming is an increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. The Greenhouse Effect is the trapping of the Sun’s warmth in the Earth’s lower atmosphere. There are two main causes of the Greenhouse Effect. The first one is Natural Greenhouse Effect and the second one is Enhanced Greenhouse Effect. Both of these causes contribute to Global Warming.
The natural greenhouse effect is supported by the water and carbon cycles. This has kept the earth warm enough for life for millions of years. The natural greenhouse effect occurs when carbon dioxide levels are in the long. The natural greenhouse happen naturally. The natural greenhouse gases help to keep the earth warm and help to keep the heat from escaping during the night. Natural greenhouse has contributed to global warming because it has been trapping to much heat which is causes the glaciers to melt which rises sea levels in some areas.
The enhanced greenhouse effect is effect caused by human activity. Enhanced greenhouse has helped increase earth’s temperature and has created more carbon dioxide. Some things that are enhanced greenhouse are burning fossil fuel, factories and deforestation. Burning fossil fuel contributes to global warming because fossil fuels are a mixture of carbon. They tend to release lots of carbon dioxide into the air. Factories also contribute to global warming because some factories require to burn fossil fuel or coal.
Deforestation is another thing that contributes to global warming because cutting down trees reduces the number of CO2 that is consumed by trees. Since there is less trees there is more carbon dioxide in the air.
