Recently, many principals banned dodge ball at the schools in Elkton, Maryland, because they say it’s “inappropriate” and goes against teachings of things like don’t throw objects at other kids. So, they cut it out of the curriculum because most of the principals voted to get rid of it. How can you get rid of dodge ball? It’s a classic game! It goes back to the stone age! They even got rid of other games like jailbreak, which is probably one of my favorite gym games. At this rate, they may have kids wearing full body armor in gym class. These principals shouldn’t get rid of dodge ball.

These principals are are getting rid of dodge ball, because they think it goes against the teaching to not throw things, when really dodge ball supports a teaching. I think Vince Lombardi puts it pretty well: “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” In our zeal to protect our children from any risk of harm, we are shielding them from some of life’s most valuable lessons.” It’s not the getting hit that makes dodge ball so “bad” in the principal’s minds, it’s how you take that dodge ball hit. Say I get hit with a dodge ball, I can either freak out and throw a fit and give up, or I can get back up. In life, you’re going to have to get back up. If we can’t even play dodge ball, how are we going to learn this lesson? Watch a documentary about it? School is about getting you ready for life, isn’t it? To make new friends, learn new things, and be prepared for what life throws at you. Playing dodgeball is getting you prepared for life in a way, and these principals going to ban it. In some schools they already have, so soon most of the schools in the country will also ban dodge ball. Remember, dodge ball teaches kids life lessons. Do schools really want to get rid of
