In the first transcript the purpose of the detective whom is communicating with the witness is in charge because he starts the conversation off as he speaks first, and to show control he asks a question “So your boy’s name is what?” – This shows the control, but another purpose is to ask question to solve the crime that has been committed. The purpose of the witness is to show the behavior of how he responds to the detective and uses accent, dialect, sociolect (The dialect of a particular social class.) to show that he is from a background where he has less intelligence than the detective by responding in short answers and grunts to the questions asked, when the detective, McArdle, asks “So your boy’s name is what?” the witness replies with a short answer, which is also a statement “Snot.” A reason why the witness is replying in short answers may be because that he is refusing to give away too much evidence and go to court when the detective says “…even after the rollers and the ambo got here… you were still here waiting ‘cause you got something to tell me, right?” In this quote the detective also uses idiolect ‘rollers’ for ‘Police vehicles’ and ‘ambo’ for ‘ambulance’, the witness replies with a shock “I ain’t going no court.”…

Location of Interview: My partner and I will interview the suspect, Gavoni, at the procurement building in a traditional office setup. We will clearly communicate with his Supervisor, Carl Rodgers, and request an office to use. We will ask Rodgers not to tell Gavoni anything about the situation. After we arrive and preset the office space to our liking we will call Rodgers and request that he tell Gavoni to report to the designated office immediately and fully cooperate. We don’t want Gavoni to know about the suspect interview until the moment he walks into the designated office. This will be crucial for a powerful element of surprise. With the interview being in an environment we prescreened the risk factors for officer safety greatly diminish. However, Gavoni can feel uncomfortable and decline to interview. Gavoni can call in sick or decide to skip work on 00-00-00.…

After four gruesome hours, he finally arrived at the interrogation room with blistering feet, swollen creaking knees, throbbing shoulders from the brutal handcuffs, and drenched in sweat for he still wore his heavy green turtleneck and suit jacket. The burly guards slammed him down in a wooden chair. The room, dimly lit by a lone overhead lightbulb, felt cold and smelled vaguely of mold and salsa. A short police detective tottered in and set down a hefty mound of paperwork. While examining the first few pages, the detective introduced himself while audibly chomping on a massive wad of grape Big League Chew, “I am Staff Sergeant Calvin. The year ’87 furnished us with a long series of cases of greater or less interest, of which I retain the records. Among my headings under this one twelve months I find an account of the adventure of the Paradol Chamber, of the Amateur Mendicant Society, who held a luxurious club in the lower vault of a furniture warehouse, of the facts connected with the loss of the British bark Sophy Anderson, of the singular adventures of the Grice Patersons in the island of Uffa, and finally of the Camberwell poisoning case. In the latter, as may be remembered, Sherlock Holmes was able, by winding up the dead man’s watch, to prove that it had been wound up two hours before, and that therefore the deceased had gone to bed within that time — a deduction which was of the greatest importance in clearing up the case. All these I may sketch out at some future date, but none of them present such singular features as the strange…

An accused is found guilty because of his/her own confession that he/she made in the interrogation room. He/She spends many years in jail without saying anything. However, another person comes forward and accepts responsibility for that same crime a few years later. As it turns out, the person who initially confessed to the crime was innocent. So, why did he/she confess to a crime he/she did not commit? To answer this question, one has to go inside the interrogation rooms of Canada. First of all, the interrogators tell the suspects that the police have evidence against them. Second, the interrogators ask…
