Does advertising help or harm us
Advertising is a business of making money by introducing and encouraging people to buy new products or use services. Whether it is good or bad depends on the aims of manufacturers.

On one hand, advertising is good because it tells us about new products. I cannot go shopping everyday so I watch television, read newspaper to have information about new products. In this case, advertising is helpful because both buyers and sellers have benefits. Buyers can enjoy the products and sellers have money.

Moreover, advertising is interesting. It attracts not only adults but also children. For example, in the advertisement of milk, there are both images and music. The image of milking cows singing the song “so happy together” impresses many people. Children have fun and insist that their parents to buy this kind of milk. So why don’t we think advertising is one kind of entertainment?

On the other hand some people find they are being cheated when advertising urges them to buy things they really do not need. With modern techniques, there are many counterfeit products and bad products. For example, the advertising of soft drink urges us to buy it. But when we drink, contrary to the advertisement, it has no effect or may harm our health. So before buying a product we should consider whether it is good or bad.

To sum up, advertising has both advantages and disadvantages. But I am sure that it is growing very fast in contemporary society. Advertising promotes a product or service . Also it encourages economy to develop. We could say it is a necessary evil in our lives.

It is very hard not to notice advertisement in today’s world. The commercials, the adds, the posters are everywhere; from TV, newspapers magazines and billboards to even a bus that is taking us to work everyday. Advertising companies know exactly how to get into our heads and how to convince us to buy their product instead of thousands of the different ones. No one can argue that advertising is influential, but there are a lot of critics and journalists that try to convince us to believe that it is not only harmless, but influential to us. One of them is John E. Calfee who in his essay “How Advertising Informs to Our Benefit” tries his hardest to prove that advertising has a positive impact on us. In his essay, Calfee gives very strong arguments supported by research and statistics, which unfortunately would probably convince an average American to agree with his ideas.…

Advertising is a manuplating way of getting people to buy things. One time Will Roger said: “Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don’t have on something they don’t need.“ I think a part of his statement is true but there are also things to buy they need and they are also used by advertising. For example windows. Everybody needs windows and when they are shown in TV the people who watch this think like: “Wow I need these windows as they are good to save money for the heating!“ And I do not think that those windows useless. There are many ways of advertising but the most effective is while you are watching a film and suddenly it stops and there is ten minutes advertisment as they should not go to another TV programme because they are afraid of missing the film, so they will watch all of the ten minutes advertisment and the next few days they will buy something of the things they saw in TV.…

The fact that it's advertised so heavily means that there's nobody that doesn't know about it. Witch could be a bad thing or a good thing. On the good part is that if it is something that interests you, or that you need you know about . If that advertisement wasn't there you might not ever know about it. On the bad part if it's something you don't need you might end up walking through a store and buying it any way. In my person opinion it all depends on the person.…
