Does Money Give Power?
I 've chosen to explore the topic money and power. The type of power here is economic power.

This type of power is being used every day in our lives, when we use money to buys things, when we give money to people in exchange for goods or services. An example of this is when someone hires a maid, she is being paid money to clean a house, and the employer has power over her, they can tell her what to clean and how to clean it.

The real power that money gives us is the power to choose. We can choose what kind of food we eat and what type of clothes we wear because we have the money to buy different things. Poor people don 't have this power to choose, as they can only buy cheap food and clothes, or may not be able to buy any at all. Then, on the other side of the scale are people who have enormous amounts of money. Celebrities and millionaires have a lot of this power, and because of their vast amount of money, they can buy almost anything they like, so this gives them a lot of power over their life because they have so many choices.

People all over the world are exerting this power that comes with money. Every time we buy something we are exerting this power. Money can also be used to gain other types of power. It can be used to buy weapons and to influence people 's opinions. So money goes hand in hand with many types of power and can be expressed in different ways.

The effects that this power has on people are things like corruption, envy, and greed. People set out to use their power for good but end up being overpowered by their greed so they use their power for personal gain. Other people envy people with money and this makes them do evil things, like steal. People also hurt while others try to get money and economic power. So most of the effects that this power has are bad ones.

The winners in this situation are the affluent people who have money and continue to make money, giving them choices and control over their lives. The losers are poor people, who can 't make money, and have little or no power over their lives and don 't have the opportunities that come with having money.

This power can be used for both good and evil, although it is more commonly known for its ability to corrupt. Examples of it being used for evil are when people use bribes to gain an unfair advantage, or to get away with something illegal. They use their money to change people 's views. Instances of it being used for good are charities, which collect money to use for a good cause, like research, or helping poor people. Also, even though the money a person has may not be used for evil ways, people tend to do evil things to gain this power. People exploit other people to gain money. They trick people, they steal or they take advantage of other people to get more money.

Most people accept this power as normal because we use money every day and don 't really realize how we are exerting power as we buy things. So there isn 't much of a response to this type of power. When just one person has a large amount of money and power though, like a celebrity, people tend to be critical of their choices and say that they 're using their money for selfish reasons.

When I was younger, I thought money ruled everything but in reality it doesn’t. Working hard doesn’t apply anymore in today’s economy. Most of the people who are wealthy have grown into the money or inherited from their ancestor. People hold the wealthy to a higher standard/power therefore they think they are better than the middle/lower class. Even though money is a great asset to have, it can be a liability. As I read the essay about Tim Blixseth, he was an individual who was not impressed or got excited about how much money he and his family had. He wanted to be low key, an average middle class person who worked hard for what he got not just given. In the story “Living It” he tells us how he would wake up in different locations each night.…

The world that we live in is completely controlled by the ec onomies of each and every country. Not all, but many people get sucked into this thinking process that they must have a lot of money in order to be happy. Although money plays a big role in being happy, it is not the only thing that needs to be there to be completely happy. Some of the people that think a lot of money is the only way to happiness, and would do anything to get more of it, become so infatuated with the fact of getting it that it completely controls their lives and in the end they wind up with nothing, This is expressed in the story The Devil and Tom Walker through which Tom sold his soul to the devil to become amazingly wealthy but when he was taken by the devil his money was turned to chips and his house and mortgages he stole were burned. Even his horses were nothing but 2 skeletons in the ground.…

Power is the ability to influence people to perform in a specific way. The ambition of having power, has made humans influence other peoples’ lives and nature. For example, writer David Hume presented and criticized the “is-ought problem—the notion that we can derive what ought to be from an example of what is” (Barash 283). People are not satisfied with what is natural, so they want to go furthermore and try to change it, using any sources they have within their reach. We are unstoppable, the more we have the more we want.…

What is power? For generations many political leaders have gained and lost power. In the book Lord of the flies, children of the island gain power through fear, whereas in the novel Farewell to Manzanar, power lied in the U.S army keeping japanese americans captive. French revolutionist Maximilien Robespierre, struck fear into the hearts of many during the reign of terror, and the Estates system held power in different classes. the first and Second estates were the higher class, while the third estate was the “working poor”. A lot of times people think of money as a good thing, but really it corrupts. Jonathan Swift had said“A wise person should have money in their head, but not in their heart.” When people gain a lot of wealth most of the time the start to look down on people but in the end it doesn't matter because we all end up the same. Dead. “We all gonna die, we bleed from similar veins.” Tupac Shakur explains this perfectly, no matter who we are we’re going to die because we are the same, human beings. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald shows how wealth creates social class which can ruin relationships.…

Money is power, which people want for themselves. The desire for money is a never ending trip and most individuals will do anything for this control. When people come in to some money, they feel superior, more powerful and above the rest of the other people that have less .they start hanging in crowds with the same level of income, so they feel better. I had a friend who once talk all the time, play together and hangout. When she got older, her family came in to money big time. Now she doesn’t talk to me, and never does anything with me. A…

When someone has more money than another person they tend to brag about it. They are capable of buying more, having more, and doing more than an un-wealthy person. And the people who are not as rich as others struggle. There is a difference between earning the money, when you work hard for it and earn money. But there is also a difference of receiving money for no reason. And that is how most wealthy people are now-a-days. When you work hard to get something, no one should be able to take anything away from you. If you stole something that did not belong to you then its wrong. And most the time someone with a lot of money teases another that is not so wealthy or is not as wealthy as them. They show off their car, house, phone, etc. If you earned a nice house or car or phone you should take advantage of it and keep it knowing you earned it. Some people become wealthy from the lottery, which is also another thing. When someone gains a lot of money they tend to "throw people away". They know they have a lot of money so they get rid of people who used to always help them. The government also "favors" certain individuals giving them money when they do not deserve it or did not work for it. When society pays taxes who does it go to? The people who do not work, the people who can not get a job because of their background, and in most terms it is…

“Money can’t buy you happiness!” This may be true, but money does have a lot to do with social class. Social class has changed a lot over the years, and it is still present today. While some want to be in a higher class because they want more money, others just want to achieve fame and recognition. The class system creates a world where the Upper class interact with the upper class, the middle class interact with the middle, and the lower with the middle. Social class appears in history, modern U.S.A, and our very lives today.…
