A question you can never really figure out the whole play is if Desdemona and Othello even love each other. The way Othello believes Iago so quickly tells that he truly does not value and trust Desdemona. When he gets alone and starts describing how much it breaks his heart because she has betrayed him. On the other hand Desdemona is not hard to tell, she's heartbroken and even shocked her beloved Othello would believe things about her. Although she starts questioning Othello’s love for her she never once questions her love for Othello. She dies trying to prove her love for him.
Even Though Othello does treat Desdemona better than Iago treats Emilia, even better than Casio treats Bianca does not mean Othello treated Desdemona correctly. Iago bullied Emilia, but she knew how to hold her own. Cassio didn't even claim Bianca because to him she was just a “street whore”. Othello did end up killing his sweet Desdemona, but before Iago got into his head he treated her like the angel she was. trapped. They never did anything their husbands told them not to. If they had a motto for that era it would be “Husbands way or the highway”.
Overall women were not treated ideal because of what people thought back then.
They thought that if you did not respect and listen to your husband, you husband was no man. This is what seems to have led to such a harsh behavior in the husband role. The men were proud of their title, it initially gave them pride. It affected the women tremendously, they were to play in this vicious game. It seems as if the more verbally abused your significant other you were “cooler” which led to more pride. The horrible cycle just kept going on and the women were trapped because divorce was shamed upon and never discussed. You were just to do your role as a woman to your best ability and hope that your husband
approved.
All in all I believe the person that was mostly caught in the little game the men played was Emilia. All Iago did was bully her and treat her horribly. For example in act 4 Desdemona was trying to prove her innocence with the help of Emilia and all Iago had to say to her was “you’re such a fool. Shut up”. In act 5 Desdemona was dyeing and Emilia was trying to tell the truth about the handkerchief and Iago was not allowing it. She went against what she knew was right to tell the truth about her sweet Desdemona. Iago gets tired of it and draws his sword on Emilia, a woman doing what's right. Before killing Emilia he shouts words like “you evil whore” and “you piece of filth you're lying”. Iago stabs Emilia once Othello turns on him, she laid and died next to her sweet Desdemona.
We've came to realize loves means nothing in this play. A great man lets jealousy grow inside him, which results in him losing his life and his sweet angel Desdemona. A horrible villain kills his sweet wife and will get tortured and prison for the rest of his life. Justice was served, avoid the evil jealousy monster and go to the source.
