Dog Abuse
The dog has always been said to be mans best friend, but not for everyone. Some people actually enjoy abusing dogs. Others do it accidentally, some people compete dogs against each other in a brutal fight for the pleasure of others and for gambling. Other people do it for the release of anger. For whatever reason, or however a dog is abused it is illegal in most places.

Some people who abuse dogs do not do it on purpose. They hurt them because they do not realize what they are doing. Some people try to keep their dogs under control by using cruel types of discipline. They may think that punishment and intimidation are the best ways to solve a problem. Some people hoard animals, which is when you have too many animals to care for. In this case someone might think that they are helping the animals. Through education most people who are unaware that they are abusive will correct their ways. The second biggest groups of abusers do it on purpose, but do not do it for a long time. For example a group of kids might decide to throw rocks at a homeless dog in an ally because they think it is fun. People that abuse animals for a short period of time are usually young, and they are not thinking. Other times the kids might be mad at someone like a parent and kick a dog because they can not kick their parents. The last group of people who hurt dogs or animals is the worst. These people whom intentionally hurt animals because they enjoy hurting things,in this case a dog, or because it makes them feel powerful. Many of these people would hurt other people it they could get away with it, but chose animals because they are more helpless. Some peoples reasons for abuse is that they simply enjoy inflicting pain. In full, intentionally hurting animals for any reason is serious. In most places those caught abusing animals will face sever punishment, such as jail time and finds.

Despite the negativity surrounding this breed of dogs, Pit Bulls are one of the most popular breeds in America. They come in several combinations of coats. The breeds originally bred for blood sports, such as bear baiting and bull baiting. It was not until later in their history dog fighting appeared. In the early days of dogfighting, before it became outlawed, dogfighting was an organized sport. “Handlers had to be able to jump in the ring and separate the fighters, and then treat the wounded dogs after the fights were over. Dogs that showed aggression toward humans, even in the middle of a fight, were usually killed and never bred.” (Pitbulls.org, © 2010).This breed has a high prey drive, perhaps from coming from terrier (example Scotland terriers) lineage. Generally, Pit bulls“were used for herding, hunting or guardian purposes, but most were bred and kept primarily as companions” (Pitbulls.org, © 2010).…

In about a quarter of fatal dog-bite cases, the dog owners were previously involved in illegal fighting. The dogs that bite people are, in many cases, socially isolated because their owners are socially isolated, and they are vicious because they have owners who want a vicious dog. The junk-yard German shepherd -- which looks as if it would rip your throat out -- and the German shepherd guide dog are the same breed. But they are not the same dog, because they have owners with different intentions. (qtd. in Argument in support of breed bans).…

There are many ways in which people tend to abuse of animals. An example is neglect, meaning that between a pet and the owner there is a “failure to provide an animal with the most basic of requirements of food, water, shelter and veterinary care” (What). Dogfighting is another example. Dogfights are events when two dogs are put inside a fighting pit and are forced to fight until the other one is dead or is too weak to fight back. The fights are brutal and the owners abandon the loosing dogs with only a couple more hours to live because of its deadly injuries or inhumanly kill the dogs themselves. The winning dog owner gets a money price. Most of the dogs that are considered to not be good enough to be entered in the pit and be victorious are used as bait to train other dogs or as breeding dogs where they are constantly exploited. All of these actions that people inflict on the animals can make them become very scared of humans, other dogs and their surroundings causing them to be very…

Dogs who get dropped off in the middle of nowhere because their owners just can’t keep up with them anymore. Dogs who are euthanized because they’ve been in the pound so long and there is no hope for them to ever be rescued, may that be because of old age or even a history of biting people. Much like humans, dogs are able to keep these traumatic memories in order to build the personality they upon adoption in present day. According to the Journal of Animal Applied Animal Welfare Science that did a research study on behaviors with dogs who have been abused and those who lived in healthy conditions. It wasn’t a surprise when the dogs who were abused seemed to perform ‘bizarre’ and ‘repetitive’ activities. It isn’t rocket science to think when an animal has a history of being abused that it would keep a stronger stance and enact in a more aggressive manner. This aggressive manner is…

According to the “Animal legal defense fund”, “Sometimes dogs are killed because they appear to be of a dangerous breed” (Animal Legal Defense fund). “Animal Legal Defense fund” also stated, “If your dog is perceived as a dangerous breed, such as a Pit Bull or Rottweiler, the risk factor to officers and your dog increases exponentially” (Animal legal Defense fund).
