Unfortunately, for many of you dog owners out there, the experience of bathing your dog may not be a very pleasant experience. Dogs don’t really mind being all dirty and they may be afraid of water. Dogs are prepared to put on a fight when it’s time for a bath, that is why we prepared a few pointers to make the whole bathing experience a little bit easier for the both of you.
1. Relate bath time with something positive
The best approach to get your dog positively associated to bathing, is the same as with practically anything new you introduce him to; treats and devotion. Prepare before you wash
It is important to brush you dogs’ fur before bathing him, especially if he is the shaggy type. Get rid of any tangled areas and check for ticks.
It is also recommended to trim your dogs’ nail, so he doesn’t accidentally scratch you in case he get upset. Just be careful; don’t cut them to short or you may cause bleeding and potentially an infection.
Before you get the water going, make sure you protect your dogs’ ears, because getting them wet can also lead to an infection. Use some cotton balls to prevent water from entering the ear canal. But be careful when putting them in, only secure the balls enough, so they can’t fall out.
4. Getting the dog wet
Just like you, your dog is also sensitive to hot and cold water. Make sure the water temperature is warm enough, but no exactly hot. When you do that, start washing your dog from the neck down. This way you can also protect his ears, eyes and mouth.
