Henry groaned as he collapsed on the rocky hill. Wheezing, he opened his pack and fished out his water bottle. The sun shone hot rays upon him as he drank. Henry saw the shady forest nearby and started to crawl toward it. When he reached the edge of the wood, he saw a figure, winding it’s way through the tall oak trees, coming right for him. Henry edged back in terror.
“Wait!
Please, I don’t know who this feisty dog belongs to, I don’t bite,” pleaded a dark haired girl. She had light skin and wore jeans and a T-shirt.
“Checker?” Henry exclaimed. “But, it can’t be, I left you home in my room … with the window open… oh.”
“Why’d you name him checker, he hasn’t got a spot on him?” the girl asked as she handed checker back to Henry.
“Um, well, my sister named him. She said one day she could teach him how to play, but changing the subject, I need to get him something to drink,” said Henry.
“All covered, my brother Connor and I gave him some food and water. Connor! Come meet…,” she looked at Henry for help,
“Henry,” he offered just as Connor came running along.
“I’m Myra, and this is Connor, my twin, and wherever you’re going, we can help you,” the girl declared.
“Wait, Myra, how do you know I’m going somewhere?”
“Well, backpack, supplies, wandering in the middle of nowhere, duh!” Connor replied.
“Okay, fine, but I don’t have enough supplies for all of us, I’m trying to find my missing sister.,” Henry said.
“Don’t worry, we’ll get some from our house over there, we’ll tell our Mom we’re going camping for a couple of nights, speaking of which, do your parents know you’re gone?” Myra …show more content…
asked.
“No,” Henry answered in barely a whisper.
“They don’t care.”
Connor started,“What do you mean they don’t-,”
“Shut up!” Myra shouted, elbowing him.
“No, it’s alright, they just, you know, didn’t ever like my sister and I,” Henry said quietly. “Speaking of Kate, we better get going,” Henry said. Myra and Connor ran back to their house to retrieve their supplies, and they set off through the woods. “Look out!” Henry said pushing the twins out of the way awhile later. Where Myra’s head had been, a dart sprouted from a tree. “They came for me, Mr. Black must have sent them,” Henry said, his voice quivering.
“Wait,” Myra reasoned, “You don’t really know where your sister is, right? Well, we could trick these men into telling us where Mr. black is keeping her.”
“You’re onto something sis,” Connor exclaimed.
“Maybe,” Henry said, “I could pretend the dart hit me, it’s me they want, there’s three of them and three of us, do you think we can take them?”
“Oh yeah,” Myra laughed, a sly grin spreading across her face. Henry didn’t even need to explain the rest of the plan, they were a team now, and they were going to do this. Even Checker gave a bark of
confidence. “Guys, One hit me, go home, I won’t live anyway!” Henry wailed as a he pretended to remove a dart from his body, revealing blood.
“Allright, come on Connor, let’s run home!” Myra shouted and ran into the woods with Connor.
“We’ve got him!” a man shouted. The three men ran toward Henry and reached for him. Henry kicked the men back with all his strength as the twins pounced. They were a remarkable team, and had the men tied up with a little rope in no time. Checker emerged behind them and growled threateningly. The men were tied up in a way that they could move, but not untie themselves. Connor held them by a sort of leash, and Myra walked alongside the men, hunting knife in hand.
“Show us where my sister is!” Henry shouted. The guards whimpered as Myra got her hunting knife closer to the men's’ faces. The walked along as the men showed them the way.
“Oh no,” Myra said after they had walked for hours. “We’re here,” she said grimly. “They were expecting us. There were men all around.
“It’s hopeless,” Henry whispered.
“No it’s not, go find your sister Henry, we’ll distract them,”
“But,”
“Go,” the twins both said. Henry took the twins into a bear hug.
“ See you later,” he said. As the twins caused a commotion, Henry made his way inside the building. He held onto the pendant he and his sister both had. He went up flights and flights of stairs, finally, there was a door. Henry pushed it open.
“Look out!” Kate shouted as Mr. Black lunged for him. Henry dodged.
“I’ve been expecting you, and now I’ve got both of you,”Mr. Black laughed.
“Why do you want us?” Henry asked.
“I want your pendants, it will open this chest and give me power, I need both,”
“Well you won’t get it!” Henry shouted.
“Very well, then I will kill you,” Mr. Black sneered, drawing a dagger. Henry looked for Checker, but he was helping the twins. He saw his sister, and they had a moment of complete understanding.
“Come and get me!” Henry jeered as Kate threw a dart at Mr. Black. He passed out and Henry grabbed the keys to the cell Kate was in. He unlocked it and they ran to the twins. Together, they took out Mr. Black’s men. They used a man’s cell phone and called the police.
“Come on, before the police get here, let’s go,you can come live with us,” said Myra.
“Henry smiled. “I think Mom and Dad deserve a second chance, “
“I agree, but thank you so much for the offer,” Kate sighed.
“Okay, fine, but promise me you’ll let us know if things get tough,”Myra said grabbing Henry by the shirt.
“Oh, and you are so busted if you don’t visit,” Connor added.
“You guys are the best,” Henry laughed.
“By the way Kate, let me know when Checker becomes famous for his skills at checkers,” Myra giggled.
Kate blushed and they all laughed. They parted their ways and all of them knew they would never forget each other.
