It has been 33,000 years since the dog became the first animal to be domesticated. It has been the most widely kept working, hunting, and pet animal in human history. There are over 490 breeds of dogs in the world. Many of these dogs can be great loyal companions for your family. In my family, we have a Greyhound and an Akita.
Greyhounds are medium size dogs with very short, easy to maintain hair. They have a long-head, an elongated snout, and are muscular built. They have a large heart that helps them with their speed. The heart twitches the muscles faster than any other dog. The skin of a Greyhound is thin and can be easily torn open from teeth, rocks, or just from horse playing; even a minor skirmish can result in stitches. Greyhounds tend to chase small prey or playmates.
The adult Greyhound do not need prolonged periods of daily exercise, as they love to sprint for a few minutes and will want to rest for hours. They are not aggressive and considered wonderful pets. They are quiet, gentle, loving, and loyal to owners and enjoy being around people and dogs. They are great pets for families with children. Greyhound can enjoy the company of other small animals or even cats depending on their personality. They are sensitive so use gentle commands. They also will occasionally have separation anxiety when left alone. The addition of a second dog will often help with this problem.
Anita’s are large and powerful dog. They have heavy bones and a muscular body with a strong, short snout. They have a thick double coat and well knuckled cat-like feet. Their tails are double curl and rarely straightened out. The Akita is a strong, self-determining and dominant dog. They are very intelligent, gutsy, brave, and kind hearted dogs. If an Akita is not socialized at a young age, it will be naturally suspicious of strangers. It is territorial about its property or home and may be a little aggressive to protect it.
