The Jewish tradition is that Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son on the rock that the Dome of the Rock surrounds. Abraham was the first follower of God who moved his family and his life based on the wishes of God. According to tradition, Abraham was told by God to sacrifice his son, Isaac, on this rock. He did not actually sacrifice his son, yet he proved his loyalty to God. The Muslims believe that this rock was where Muhammad ascended into heaven to learn of the will of Allah. Muhammad was the founder of the religion of Islam and was said to be the last prophet. Muhammad then returned to Earth to spread the word of Allah to all people.
