Police should not consider the financial impact on an abuser’s family, when it comes to arresting a domestic abuser. Domestic abuse is defined as physical violence, “can also include psychological abuse, sexual assault, social isolation, deprivation, intimidation, and even economic coercion” (Harmening, 2014, Pg 123). According to society standards today, many individuals who are mostly females stay in abusive relationships for financial reasons. Police officers should not concern themselves with the financial situation of an individual, because their lives outweigh their “stations in life”. “Males were 83 percent of spouse murderers and 75 percent of dating partner murderers” (Harmening, 2014, Pg 123).
