Domestic violence
Domestic violence, spousal abuse, sexual abuse, battering or intimate partner violence (IPV) is considered one of the most serious and abhorrent social diseases around the world. It is defined as physical, sexual, psychological or financial violence that takes place within a family-type relationship. Domestic violence is a major problem which affects all the spectrums of society not only in the developing countries but in the advanced countries as well. In their study of domestic violence, Smartt and Kury (2007), show that there are two women each week and 30 men per year whose lives are claimed as a consequence of domestic violence incidents. Domestic violence affects one in each six men and one in each four women through their lifetime (Stanko et al as cited in Smartt and Kury (2007)). Children are also greatly affected by domestic violence acts as UNICEF (United Nations International Children 's Emergency Fund) estimates that more than 275 million children worldwide are exposed to violence in their homes. More over there are more than 90% of prisoners experienced violence when they were children ( '10 shocking domestic violence statistics for 2011). Therefore, the issue of domestic violence acts is one of the most pervasive human rights challenges of the current century. It has many different causes and severe effects on everybody in the society. Hence, to construct a developed civilized society, domestic violence phenomenon has to be eradicated.
The great majority of domestic violence victims are women and children. However, there are also men who experience violence by other males or females but with a ratio smaller than women and children. Women are more likely to suffer from
