Dealing with domestic violence means dealing with underlying causes. Domestic violence… don’t just punish, prevent. Domestic Violence is a serious problem, which occurs worldwide. Recently domestic violence has been recognised as a serious problem globally, which not only has harmful effects on family members but living with domestic violence can cause physical and emotional harm to women, children and even men. Children who are exposed to domestic violence are at greater risk of substance use, criminal behaviour and juvenile pregnancy than those who are raised in homes without domestic violence. The exact occurrence of domestic violence in Australia is difficult to determine for several reasons: it often goes unreported, there is no countrywide organisation that collects information from police stating how many calls they receive within a day about domestic violence, and there is a worldwide disagreement on the meaning of domestic violence. Physical violence is estimated to occur in 4 to 6 million intimate relationships each year in the United States of America. Around the world at least one in three woman have been beaten, pressured into a sexual relationship or abused in their lifetime. It is also estimated that 2 to 4 million US women are attacked by their partner every year. 25% of the female population will be abused in their lifetime, and up to 35% of womanhood and 22% of men presenting to the emergency department have experienced domestic. Even though we don’t know how frequently domestic violence occurs, we do know that it is a popular concern that is constantly making an appearance in the media, newspapers and among conversations. Reading statistics and knowing that this topic is very popular is a major worry. Why would you want to live in a world where you could be the next victim of domestic violence? How does it feel knowing that the earth you live on contains family violence, which could affect future generations? The statistics of domestic violence highlights that it’s quite impossible to prevent domestic violence, but there is no harm in trying to make a change. You never know what could happen! The change you make towards domestic violence, could potentially change a family’s life forever. You will reconnect broken families, create new relationships or even divide relations that weren’t meant to be. That person will not have to live a miserable and fearful life, they will be able to live the life they once desired and make their dreams
