The purpose of this poster is to show the devastating effects of Domestic Violence. The issue of Domestic Violence is that most people aren’t aware about it or are too afraid to speak out. The intense topic of Domestic Violence is one rarely spoken of, in my poster I was hoping to evoke the feeling of horror and to make it easier for people to break free from these relationships as they have support from their families and friends. We raise awareness by increasing the understanding of the impact of domestic violence, and providing programs and education that drive that change. The motivation behind this poster is to demonstrate the horrifying impacts of Domestic Violence.
The symbol of a figure of a woman breaking apart into purple petals, and the text ‘But you broke me.’ Represents the violent and forceful bonds between the attacker and victim and the effect it has on the victim. The fist represents the anger held in the attacker’s hand when they …show more content…
hurt their ‘partner’ whether that's physically, emotionally or sexually. The fist I placed near the heart and the cracks coming from beneath the fist (or the heart) shows the broken relationship between the offender and victim. The use of the text ‘SPEAK OUT’ place strategically on the brain influences the viewer to voice their opinions, to help friends or family members to get out of the oppressive environments or to get out themselves.
The statistics shown on my poster are so high because Domestic Violence isn’t publicly stopped or publicly voiced so many are afraid to speak out.’ One in three women have experience domestic violence.
One women is killed every week by a former partner or current.’ Power in a violent relationship is a huge influence if someone can manipulate the victim into staying quiet out of fear for safety or making them feel insignificant and small. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and White Ribbon, domestic violence is one of the most chronically underreported crimes. ‘Only 25% of all physical assaults, 20% of all rapes, and 50% of all stalking perpetrated against females by their partners are reported to the police.’ Clearly this is a problem. This happens due to the offender scares the victim into staying quiet by threatening them or their families or brainwashing them into thinking it's the victims fault. Imagine how much pain and anger could be stopped if we raised
awareness.
To raise awareness of this issue the poster uses the techniques symbols, titles and text and colours to portray violence against women. The readers eye instantly travel to the colour purple. Purple combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. The colour purple is often associated power, and ambition, wealth, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur, devotion, peace, pride, and independence. All these is what a woman should embrace whether she is trying to break out of an abusive relationship or recovering from one, she needs to be the fierce red and calm blue to be the powerful independent purple.
The reason for this poster is to demonstrate the overwhelming impacts of Domestic Violence. The serious subject of Domestic Violence is one that is occasionally talked about. In my poster, the focal points of colours, text and title bring up the issue, of aggressive behaviour that happens behind closed doors and this drives people to make a change.
