Introduction: One’s culture is a key part of their identity. Culture can reside in a nation, family, ethnicity, a religion, etc. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “A Nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people”. One’s culture is usually seen through the religion and traditions of their nation; therefore this influences their everyday lives and their behavior.. Culture influences one’s appearance or the way they talk, but also a person’s ideas, judgements, and treatments of others.…
Culture comprises the shared values and assumptions of a particular group of people. Because these values and assumptions are shared, it is easy for people to take them for granted and assume that they are the ‘normal way’. This makes people believe that the way they do things and behave, and the things they value, are right and true for everyone.…
Culture is the behaviour, beliefs and characteristics of a particular group of people. Age groups, ethnic groups and social groups etc… are all examples of groups of people that possess their own unique culture. The people within a culture are expected to follow the norms and values that are passed down through generation to generation. Over the past 30 years, different cultures have gradually intermingled due to an increasing number people immigrating to different countries, which each bring their own cultures, be it religious or pop culture etc... . Everyone has heard of culture, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they know what it means. Often times people confuse terms such as culture, society, and ethnic group, but they all mean very different things. A society is a group that shares a geographic region, a common language, and a sense of identity and culture; an ethnic group is a group of people who share a language, customs, and a common heritage; culture is how people act and their judgement towards one another. Also, not many people know how culture changes or how it’s spread. In this essay, I will describe culture, how it’s spread, and how it changes.…
Culture differs from one location to another because every person or group of people are different, and have different values. Here in the US for example there are many different cultures, material and nonmaterial. As Dalton Conley defines it in the book ‘You May Ask Yourself’ material culture is “everything that is a part of our constructed, physical environment, including technology”. We get most of these from advertising and trends by celebrities. We see a celebrity wearing the latest smart watch and in out materialistic culture we feel the need to go buy a smart watch.…
“They have no central leadership, no master plan, no fixed structures, and no self-representation as a single entity. Their actions as a group are the result of local contacts and temporary synchronizations. These forms of collective performances are responsible for numerous ongoing cultural, social, and political transformations.” (Fischer-Lichte, 2009:1)…

Throughout the 1960s, there was a cultural phenomenon that started in the United States and spread like wildfire to multiple other cultures in the world. This phenomenon was also known as countercultures. This decade raised the 76.4 million Americans born during the baby boom generation. These adolescents entered their teen years during the 1960s and they definitely embraced a multitude new standards, dramatically different from the way their parents were raised. While some encompassed new ideals in dress, music and movies others joined countercultures and rebelled against the social norms. Three of the most altering countercultures were the Hippies, the Sexual Revolution and the Gay Liberation. The Hippies were the beginning counterculture of this era. The sexual revolution and gay liberation connect back to the hippies. During the hippie time sex was key factor in their freedom and rebellion and with the freedom of sex came the freedom of sexuality. These small connection do not make these countercultures the same, but all them together helped transform society in drastic ways. 1…

American Culture is truly one of kind for the mere fact it has a great impact on the cultures and societies that adopt it. American culture is widely portrayed as American movies, TV shows, fast-food restaurants, and brands. These factors alone have caused a change in perspective for many individuals. Although many would say it has negatively impacted other cultures, it has not but it has made them want a change. Many American films are known for stereotyping different cultures.…
The American Dream — a cookie-cutter house, a white picket fence, and a housewife in pearls — exist largely due to an unspoken conformity in American culture that stems from the end of World War II. With the rise of communism and Cold War brewing beneath the surface of international relations, the American people placed sameness and unity above all other aspects of culture, favoring security over expression and individuality. In fact, in his essay, “Training for Statesmanship,” George F. Kennan reflected that “for reasons highly complex, we Americans place upon ourselves quite extraordinary obligations of conformity to the group in utterance and behavior,” revealing the omnipotence of social obligations, even outweighing legal reasoning within…

As a white working class female living in Canada, I have a culture that, although has unique traditions, is largely similar to the stereotype of “North American Culture.” My race would be considered Caucasian as I fit the generic physical traits associated with that race. Culture and race have different meanings and implications and therefore affect people in different ways. Culture is a collection of beliefs, traditions, arts, and other works associated with a group of people. Race is a group of people that are considered similar because of biological characteristics. Race is often thought of in terms of skin colour, but can also be associated with other genetic traits. The lines between race and culture are often blurred because race can be considered a group of people with a shared history or nationality and culture would stem from that history and geographic location.…
There are many cultural differences when coming to a new country, especially when being only fifteen. Arriving in a new country by yourself is scary, mostly when you do not know the culture, and more importantly, the language. In my first weeks of being here, I really did not notice the differences, but as the time goes on, I notice more and more.…
