On 1951 , there was a strike for equal education , this strike wad led by a young lady named Barbara Johns. There was a case , Brown v. Board of education in 1954, they declared that Segregation in the school systems was unconstitutional. One of the cases related to the Brown v. BOE was Plessy v. ferguson. It was a case that found segregation to be legal under the law as long as facilities were equal. Fifty eight years later the case was overturned by the Brown v. Firstly, unequal treatment in the classroom can negatively affect the academic performance and well-being of marginalized students. When students face discrimination, it creates a bad environment where they might feel unsupported. This can lead to a lack of motivation and lack of class participation, which only affects the students’ academic performance. Furthermore, letting these inequalities unaddressed can lead to the reinforcement of societal prejudices and discrimination, which in turn undermines the principles of equality and fairness and marginalized groups of students feel left out. I agree with both of the authors that there is a problem in the United Sates education system when it comes to race and segregation but I do not think that the issue is as wide spread as the authors make it out to be but in other areas the situation is only getting worse and this lack of diversity in schools can only lead to further problems with race relations. At the turn of the twentieth century North Carolina’s government fell under the control of the Democrats’ White Supremacy rule. The Jim Crow laws, enacted by North Carolina’s legislature in 1899, formally required segregation in all public facilities and transportation. Disenfranchisement, an attempt to restrict African Americans’ rights to vote, allowed Democrats to apply a poll tax and a literacy test. This combination successfully restricted an enormous portion of African-American voters and poor white Republican supporters from casting a vote.
