Don Quixote Salvador Dali Visual Analysis

Don Quixote from Salvador Dali, The Spanish Surrealist. The visual illusion, Don Quixote from Salvador Dali, encompasses three different illusions that form a single painting. When first looking at the picture an individual may see an old man with a pointy nose, and “Einstein” hair, wearing a white t-shirt. However when getting another glance you can also see two knights riding on a horse with a windmill in the background. Lastly, looking at the background of the illustration an individual can also see different faces that make up the lighting of the sky, to the lighting of the old man’s t-shirt. It took each of them a while to say something about the picture, but the three of them said they looked at the picture as a whole and saw the man first. However by analyzing it more, they could see the two knights on the horses. The participants also started to talk out loud by grouping each object together such as stating the sky is blue with a face, then there is a brown background, which can be rocks as different faces. However for the other individual she told me she focused on one aspect of the picture trying to figure out what it was, and how it assimilated with the picture. By doing this she had a harder time finding the different illustrations, such as the man and then the two knights. One main phenomenon is the top-down perceptual process. This process involves the individual looking at the painting as a whole, by using global knowledge of different environment’s, and or shapes giving the individual the ability to identify the man, or the two different cowboys.
