I believe that the biggest challenge facing Marian students today is cold hard sexism. A typical Marian girl works tirelessly to excel in the academic field, the athletic field, and in any other clubs or organizations she is involved in. However, because of her sex, she will have to work twice as hard all of her life to be considered suitable for certain colleges, careers, and promotions. Even then, it can be difficult for her to secure society's approval. A woman's appearance is oftentimes valued over her intellect, especially in the world of journalism. What a woman wears, how she does her hair, and how she smiles can become more important than the story she is reporting. I think that Marian High School's staff already does a wonderful job of encouraging girls to work to achieve what they dream of. As long as students continue to see strong and bright women in leadership positions, they will not be discouraged from believing that they can become those women when they get older. And as long as the school's principle and teachers repeat the saying "We are confident, independent, thinking leaders!" Marian girls will know it is
