Orphaned as a child, then taken in by his grandfather that did everything but love him. A renowned painter named Basil Hallward meets this young, handsome man named Dorian Gray. Basil is set in a trance with Dorian's beauty from the very start. He asks to paint Dorian to capture and preserve his youth. He has painted him many times, but this final time he paints him how he appears. During the time Basil and Dorian are together Basil cherishes every moment. He notices how innocent the young lad is and, can capture it in his paintings. On a day he is going to start on his painting of Dorian his friend Henry Wotton pays him a visit. Henry is a witty man that manipulates people using his charisma and his lifestyle . Let start with Bali Hallward, who is meant to show us the good in the book. He is so optimistic and always look for the good in everyone. Once he sees Dorian for the first time he is so entranced by his innocence that he wants to capture it in his paintings to preserve it. We can tell he only wanted the best for Dorian and even after the 18 years go by he still thinks Dorian is the innocent, pure young man that he was when he first met him. The bad entity represented in this novel would be none other than Henry Wotton. Henry is the absolute opposite of Basil. Henry is charismatic, witty, and very manipulating. He represents all the unknown deeds that a good person wouldn't commit. Its no wonder why Dorian is attracted to him mentally. His curiosity got the best of him after just the first meeting. Throughout the whole novel, we see this constant back and forward between the two sides. Dorian is always going from one extreme to the other. At the end good did prevail and ultimately Dorian wanted to finally rid his soul of evil for good and in doing so he killed
