Dorian Gray Persuasive
Dorian Gray Persuasive In my opinion a person’s outward appearance does not necessarily reflect who he/she is inside. How many times have you thought someone acted and lived a certain way just by looking at them, but then got proven wrong after getting to know them? How many times have you thought someone looked very unapproachable but turned out to actually be the opposite? What a person looks like on the outside could be completely different from their personality. There are people in the world that have bright colored hair and skin filled with ink and piercings. Most people perceive those kinds of people to be aggressive and strange with no goals in life but in all honesty they could be successful with enormous hearts filled with generosity.

The first thing people see is the outward appearance of someone. It doesn’t always mean people act like how they dress necessarily, get to know a person and you’ll see what they’re really like. Someone might look lazy and not pay a lot of attention to their appearance, but they could be a diligent and intelligent person. Outward appearances should not affect the way the person is viewed on the inside. People also might act differently than someone else because of where they grew up and how they lived. “Human behavior is largely constrained by the rules that govern particular situations and environments. We are constantly obliged to behave in a particular way, or to avoid certain behaviors” (Burgess). That quote from the article, “Breaking the Rules,” explains the theme that you should get to know someone before you decide what to think of them, because not everyone is who they seem.…

Appearance is everything, the way someone looks, talks, and acts all make up who they are as a person. When someone does something the way they are seen often affects the outcome and consequences of their actions. This is seen very often in both Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. The main characters in both of these novels do awful things but their physical appearance, mindset, and whether they are a good or a bad person affects the way they are treated. The way society sees a person's overall appearance too often changes the way their actions are seen and dealt with and how they are treated as well.…

By judging someone only by their appearance you are not giving them the chance to show what they have to offer. When you judge someone off of their looks you could be missing out on the kindest and hardworking person you have ever met. Some people can’t afford to dress in nicer clothes and just have to work with what they have. Other people prefer to dress in what makes the either feel nice about themselves or comfortable. In Oscar Wilde’s only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, many influences are at play throughout the book. The relationships between the characters are all about the influence they have on each other’s life. However, out of them all, one of the characters stands out as a more detached figure who has mastered the art of influencing without being influenced by others himself: Lord Henry Wotton. To study the different forms of influences in the book, we shall first focus on the link between art and influence before turning to the study of the influence of Lord Henry and Basil on Dorian, to finally discuss the effect of all the influences on Dorian and debate over whether Dorian can be considered as an evil character at the end of the book.…

In The Picture of Dorian Gray, author Oscar Wilde employs the literary element of symbolism to help us, the audience to see the protagonist Dorian Gray’s transformation from a innocent naïve individual to later a soul marked by secrets and sin. It is also, through symbolism that we see exactly how and what influences Dorian to his destructive path and ultimately his dramatic end. Wilde uses the symbol of the yellow book given to Dorian by Lord Henry as a symbol of the negative influence Lord Henry has over Dorian and a representation as well of what Dorian can eventually become.…

The novel has no immoral connotation and as Oscar Wilde said in the book, “The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame” (Wilde, 487). Society doesn’t approve immoral acts, showing it’s constant dislike to murders, robberies, and others. They use the argument…

I do agree with the fact that you should not be affected by the appearance of a person. Transcendentalism also confirms the above idea. There are three main reasons that we should not decide to do something according to his/her appearance; First, it may lead to a misjudgment about that person. Second is the fact of differences between appearance and one's real personality. Finally, it may make you ashamed!…

Oscar Wilde, author of The Picture of Dorian Gray, was an Irish author who lived from October 16, 1854 until his death, at the age of 46, on November 30, 1900. He attended the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland and the Magdalene College in Oxford, England. Mr. Wilde was an active member of the aestheticism literary movement, during his day, although he lived during the Victorian Era. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, there are many passages or episodes that hold key meanings in the book as a whole, and without them; a large amount of the underlying tones and themes would be lost. In chapter two, there is a very significant key passage that has to do with the roles of Lord Henry and Dorian Gray and how they are going to affect each other. The key passage pushes Lord Henry under the role of the victimizer and Dorian Gray as the victim.…

Oscar Wilde’s novel is an extended metaphor that reinforces his idea that ‘There is no such thing as a moral or immoral book’. In The Picture Of Dorian Gray his view is very contradictory. His theory is reinforced through the changes in Dorian’s personality, the ‘yellow book’ A Rebours (‘against nature’) which was one of the most important novels during the decadence period, which was given to Dorian Gray by Lord Henry. Consequently, leading us to the corruption of Dorian Gray and his inevitable death.…

Many people influence our lives, shaping the way we act, talk, and even think. People can affect others in many positive ways, however, they can also corrupt the people around them. In the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray , written by Oscar Wilde, the author provides recurring examples of influence to demonstrate that being swayed by external influences is the forfeit of one's individuality which often leads to one's destruction. In the novel, Lord Henry influences Dorian Gray to the point where Dorian loses all respect, dignity, and integrity that he had and eventually leads him to experience his downfall.…
