Dorothy Parker's One Perfect Rose
The idea of receiving chocolates and roses from someone you admire might be a fantasy for countless woman. However, for Dorothy Parker, it’s the exact opposite. There are several clichés that accompany falling in love and receiving roses is one of them. In other words, there are countless unique ways to show your admiration for someone other than picking up some roses. Although the poem “One Perfect Rose” is rather short, it is overflowing with symbolism and imagery which can be efficiently expressed through a collage.

The poem “One Perfect Rose” discusses the themes of love and admiration and essentially what actions to avoid when properly conveying your admiration for a woman. For several women like Dorothy Parker, roses are too cliché, after all, we do live in a world where

On the other hand, the bottom half of the collage demonstrates an unhappy woman who has in her possession some items that are typical for a woman to receive from her significant other. To be more specific, perfume, a teddy bear, chocolates, and roses are placed beside this unhappy woman. These items made an appearance in this collage to demonstrate the overused items woman receive from their significant other. In this collage, there is a happy couple holding a heart, the couple is black and white because it signifies how dull the woman truly feels after receiving roses. With that being said, the rest of the collage is full of color to demonstrate how the woman truly feels. There is a limousine displayed in the dead center of the collage to demonstrate the importance of its mention in the poem. It is clear that Dorothy did not literally desire a limousine, she is trying to express that roses are gray and there are higher quality gifts that can be given. With that being said, next to the limousine there are lips with the words “Ah, no it’s always my luck to get one perfect rose.”

The poem “Beauty” by the author Tony Hoagland is a piece about the true beauty of a woman. Not the outside physical features but what makes a girl a girl and a woman a woman. True inner beauty, the special flower that girls hold so dear. Hoagland uses extended metaphor, third person point of view, and imagery to portray the loss of a woman’s virginity by comparing it to the strive to be beautiful to gain the acceptance of society.…

    The Yellow Wallpaper Essay

It is a bit ironic that the author chose a color so bright and usually defined as being a happy and joyful color. However, this story is not at all joyful, but is instead is very depressing and sad. The wallpaper is described in such great detail that it is very easy for the reader to picture exactly what the author is trying to say. “It is dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced enough constantly to irritate and provoke study…” within this description of the the wallpaper it is obvious that the narrator is unhappy with the wallpaper and as the story goes on the wallpaper begins to play a vital role in her psychological deterioration (156). The wallpaper appears to be a border that keeps the women trapped within the shadows of the men. As the narrator begins to rip the paper off this is the symbol of freedom and the struggle to be release from the constant stereotypes and gender differences. It is interesting to see that even though the wallpaper was what was causing the narrator to deteriorate at the end of the story, the wallpaper is what finally frees…

I pick the poem called the "A Certain Lady" by Dorothy Parker for the poet presentation. I separate slides in two stanzas. The significance of the title, "A Certain Lady," tells a story of the lady who interacts with the man, but he is unable to see her love, and he talks about his exploits with other women to her. Both stanzas show how she pretends her happiness to the man, and he'll never realize it.…

In the honor of the god Zeus, the Olympic Games were held in Olympia every fourth year between 776 B.C.E. and 395 C.E. One of the events was Chariot racing, the most popular sport in ancient times. Chariots were owned by the wealthy and used for warriors in battle. The race took place in an arena called hippodrome. The artists who painted the vase of the chariot race, had been successful in making an illusion that created speed. The horse’s tails and the charioteer’s hair are blown back by the rush of air. The painter also drew in a post at the end suggesting that the chariot is coming to the finish end, creating climax. The next big attraction was wrestling, boxing and the…

Contrasting the happy, in love, almost married couple is a single man opposite to the in the picture along with his cat close by to him. It is said that as a symbol cats are the premiere of becoming independent (i.e. cat ladies). In the background you also find a single, red rose placed in front of the bright window pane. Red roses show love, beauty, courage among other things, but specifically a single red rose means “I love you”. This is important because you have both sunshine, which is a bright symbol and a single red rose, exemplifying love in the painting.…

The first part of the novel begins with the spend-the-days, in which the grandchildren congregate at Ammachi and Appachi’s home. Arjie and his female cousins, as usual, play their game of “bride-bride,” which is interrupted when their cousin Tanuja (Her Fatness) refuses to indulge Arjie’s desire to be bride. The adults ultimately discover their game, and one uncle tells Arjie’s father “you have a funny one here” (14). Arjie is no longer allowed to play with the girls. When he questions his mother, she responds with “because the sky is so high and pigs can’t fly, that’s why” (19).…
