She explains how an unfortunate event at school unknowingly started how career in community outreach. One classroom was chaotic and a teacher could not keep things under control. That teacher walked to the front office and decided to quit an walk out that same day. The principal wanted to devise a solution to the problem, so Ms. Maxine was placed in the classroom to be with the children.
Every morning she and other teachers would meet with children suffering from behavioral problems. They would emotionally prepare each student to handle their day. If a student got out of hand or felt as though they were beginning to lose control, thy were given permission to go and consult with M.s Maxine. They made a decision to promise to make consultation with their big sister before they give into behaving badly; the children in the program were released to do so when they felt that urge.

Maxine may experience a lot of no’s, but she take it as a determination to get a yes. This shows effective policy reform changing skills. She experience big variations in who she serves. It may be challenging to have different approaches with children opposed to parents, and different from how to approach the elderly. Doughty Park is an urban environment they may be influenced by lack of motivation. It can be challenging to help others who lack drive, but she seems to empower them by giving them a voice and making their presence power in decision making for the community. Because social programs are hard to be funded, she may have a challenge finding grants and policies to help them. There is a drive and passion in what she does for the community, but she may experience caregiver’s burn
