Lights, music, and excessive (dance move) dabbing, accompanied by gambling and countless dance circles. The “Down by the Bayou” dance was a night to remember for Conifer students, as well as students from evergreen, Clear creek, and Platte Canyon. “I feel like [the dance] is a good opportunity to spread some diversity and get to know different people,” freshman Justin Stephens said. “I feel like it’s going to be a little different, but I feel like it should be the same type of traditional dance we’ve had before, like homecoming or prom last year.” Though many were optimistic about the mix-up of schools, some students had more pessimistic views before the dance. “[The combined dance] is a bad idea,” freshman Ben Clark said whilst waiting in line before the dance began. “We’re not very intelligent as a group to begin with and this is our
“I think it was a good idea, but at the same time, it just seemed weird because I know a lot of other kids from other schools didn’t seem to show up. I think it was a good idea [to invite other schools] because you get to know other people, but at the same time, I feel like it’s more idealised in your head than it is when it’s actually executed because you’re not going to socialise with the kids you don’t know very well and have never seen… It was fun, but there wasn’t anything super special about it.” One of the biggest factors that made “Down by the Bayou” stand out was the addition of gambling. Unlike the average casino, students/attendees didn’t need to invest any money, but still got the chance to play blackjack, craps, poker, and roulette. “I thought [the gambling] was really fun,” senior Brynnah Glas said. “I learned how to play a couple games and I really liked blackjack; I was better at that one. Craps was a little more complicated, but it was fun… It was like gambling, but there are no consequences, so that was pretty
