Lacrosse is defined as a ball game invented by American Indians, now played by two teams who try to propel a ball into each other's goal by means of long-handled hooked sticks that are loosely strung with a kind of netted pouch (Farlex, Inc.). Behind every shot taken in a lacrosse game, elements of biomechanics are implemented. Biomechanics is the “sport science” field that applies the laws of mechanics (movements, body angles, joint positions, etc.), biomedical engineering, and physics (gravity, forces, velocities, etc.) to athletic performance (What is 3D Biomechanics).…

In the end, the last shot of a commercial is the lasting image in the viewer's head. Every Mac commercial in general always ends the same. The last shot is a picture of the Mac computer whether it’s the desktop or laptop. The background of the computer is the basic blue screen saver with the Apple sign and the letters M-A-C in bold white. The computer is shown on a bright white background even though the computer is white. The computer doesn’t stand out tremendously on the white background. Nor does it present a great picture to be remembered well.…

    Missing A Shot Analysis

The theory that athletes go through "hot and cold streaks" stands on the fact that players go through ups and downs throughout a season. First, the hypothesis that states a player tends to make more shots after missing is considerably wrong based on the conclusion that players statistically produce an equal percentage of shots after missing a shot or making a shot. Also, it’s possible to replicate this concept in other sports too. Baseball players go through stretches during the season where they struggle heavily. Out of a random sample of players, a career .285 hitter could start the season hitting a mere .220. However, through other stretches of the season, a hitter will hit in streaks that reflect higher than his standing or career averages.…

Hole eight was my destination; that’s where I was to meet my team. After introductions, the horn blared and the tournament began. After three tremendous shots down the fairway, the last boy in our group, Thomas, proceeded towards the tee box. That’s when I noticed something was wrong with the way he walked. What is wrong with him? How is he going to tee off if he can’t even walk right? This was going to take forever! He finally swung and the ball flew about fifty yards in front of him. I thought to myself, “My grandma could shoot farther than that and she’s never even played golf.” This was just the start of how our day went. At every hole, the two boys and I came in close to par; while, Thomas always scored ten to fifteen strokes over par. I noticed, though, his unbridled excitement and smile never faded. Every time his ball hit the hole, his enthusiasm was uncontainable. There were high fives for everyone! Somewhere along the course, I knew that my mindset had changed. Thomas helped me realizing that there was so much more to playing the game then to just win. I aspired to always do my best and enjoy the thrill of just playing the game.…

On the first tee, I was as nervous as an athlete competing in the olympics. I met my two playing partners, Jacob and Connor. Jacob was a towering fellow. Connor was a short, stringbean like me. Unexpectedly, my drive was smooth and rolled down the fairway as if I hit it on a tarmac. Jacob and Connor both hit their drives right down the pipe as well. As our group, made our ascent to the green, we all drew our putters like pirates would for a sword fight.…

The smell of my sweaty glove was filling the air around me. My tee shot off of hole number five soared in the sky like an eagle and rolled through the fairway. “Just don’t mess the next shot up,” I coached myself. I found The Chips Are Down - Poker Chips by Richard Lavoie, very interesting. When listening to his lecture it reminded me of my middle school years. I was a shy student when it came to reading and answering comprehensive questions. In the 8th grade, I was blessed with an amazing English teacher; she worked with me many times outside of the classroom to be comfortable with answering questions aloud. I owe to her the dedication she had for my studies. However, when watching this video, I did not agree with one of his statements. He said that being a parent and teacher is simple. I do not believe this is true. It is simple to build a child up and give them more "poker chips", although the act of teaching or being a parent can be hard at times.…

Sport relies on three major physics concepts: force, acceleration and velocity; many of which involve elastic propulsion and/or projectile motion. Various types of sporting equipment are constructed with springs and elastics, in order to absorb a force or apply a force to another object. In the context of this investigation, the spring is utilised to propel an object. According to Hooke’s law, F = -kx, the distance, x, that a spring is contracted or extended is proportional to the net force being exerted. Springs create a restoring force, so movement implies that potential energy is being converted to kinetic energy (BBC, 2014). Elastic potential energy is defined by Physics: A contextual Approach (2004) as “the energy stored in a compressed or expanded spring. It is proportional to the square of the distance which it is extended or compressed. The proportionality constant is equal to one half of the spring constant.” This can be expressed by the equation Ep = - ½ k x2, where Ep = elastic potential energy (J), k = spring constant (Nm-1) and x = extension or compression of the spring (m).…
