Dr Catherine Hamlin, born on the 24 January 1924, is a heroic doctor who has dedicated her life to overcoming fistula in Ethiopia and restoring terrified women to their peaceful lives. As an Australian obstetrician and gynaecologist she has helped over more than 34,000 women in Ethiopia. She has already had a large impact on society and continues to create a shift in people's thinking.

She has many different forms of recognition but she says that the best award is the faces of the women that she has cured. Dr Catherine Hamlin is a member of the Order of Australia, received the Centenary Medal and has been nominated twice for the Nobel Prize. She has given many people a new life and has provided more knowledge for these women and a happier place. This has affected these women because they are now able to lead a life that they were born into. Obstetric fistula is a major issue in Ethiopia and Dr Catherine Hamlin has helped raise awareness of this affliction. Many people are very curious and volunteer their time. Dr Catherine Hamlin and her husband also created one of the first hospitals that where specifically for curing patients with obstetric fistula. This hospital gave a spark of hope to many people. Her actions have inspired society to never give up. Many people aspire to be amazing but few
