According to Dr. Marshal to be a doctor, one must have a bachelor’s degree, a basic degree in medicine, a year of internship, and another four years of training and two years of subspecialty training.
She described her typical workweek goes like this, she has a current schedule of MWF, consultation of patients in the morning from 9:00 am-11:30 am then the clinic happens in the afternoon usually 1:30 pm until 4:00 pm sometimes it varies depending on the workload, and in between workload they also deliver babies. She also goes to the college of medicine to teach or give exams. Marshal considers that this job of her is rewarding since she always wanted to be a doctor, she’s doing what she wants. Moreover, she is able to involve on to her patient’s care on their babies and have a part in their lives.
As a doctor she is disciplined when it comes to work hours, since she is the sole proprietor of her own clinic and doesn’t report to an employer, her schedule is inconsistent so she have to be flexible, like she tries to be consistent when it comes to her work hours so that patients are aware of what time they can consult the clinic.
As for her, she took a pretty well career path. Patient-wise it is, there will always be patients for pregnant women and childbirth will always occur. But like otherwise, there are dull moments for there are also other doctors that others can refer to. But if someone desires to become OB-GYN, he/she must consider what they could offer to the people. “I think it’s always like that kasi everyone can be engineers, everyone can be doctors but what can you give that can be of significance? And if patients see that then they come to you.” Dr. Marshal said.
