I have been interested in the nursing profession for years. Lack of experience at a younger age, perceived financial resource limitations, cross-country moves, etc. have all played a part in holding back allowing this interest turning into a reality. Now that I have had years in the retail, clinic and business pharmacy space to allow me to mature, I have educated myself about financial resources and have settled in my home of Phoenix, I feel that I am in a position to pursue becoming a registered nurse.
The compassion and drive that nurses have to care for their patients is one that I do not see in many professions. Aside from my personal childhood pediatrician visits, my first significant interaction with nursing staff was at Boston Children’s Hospital. The nursing staff that took care of my older sister with Cystic Fibrosis always made her and my family feel comfortable. They attended not only to my sister’s care, but also made sure we were educated on what care was being provided and usually got us kids crack a smile or let out a laugh.
The time is right now for me to ensure I am able to obtain the right education so I, too, can provide the same level of care and compassion that the nurses at Children’s Hospital did for my sister. I enjoy caring for others and want to make a difference in those who need care.
