New Delhi: The year 2012 was full of numerous major events in the fields of politics, business, cinema and sports which shaped the outgoing year and grabbed a lot of public attention.
At home, we saw many important happenings like UPA’s trouble shooter Pranab Mukherjee’s election as thePresident of the Indian Republic, surfacing of a string of scams dealing severe blow to the credibility of the UPA dispensation at the Centre, intense bickering within BJP with demand to remove incumbent party chief Nitin Gadkari and demise of several veteran personalities from all fields of public interests. Demise of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray and former Prime Minister IK Gujral marked the end of an era in Indian politics whereas passing away of legendary film actors like- Rajesh Khanna, Dara Singh and renowned film maker Yash Chopra left the showbiz shocked.

India:
19 January: Suresh Kalmadi, who was behind bars and facing trial for irregularities in organising 2010 Commonwealth Games, was granted bail by Delhi High Court.
February 2: The Supreme Court cancelled 122 2G spectrum licences allotted to the telecom companies during DMK leader A Raja’s stint as Union Minister for Telecom. The Apex Court also granted bail to A Raja, an accused in the 2G scam and lodged in a Delhi jail for his alleged involvement in allocating the licences arbitrarily causing huge losses to government’s exchequer.
February 8: Three ministers of BJP government in Karnataka- Laxman V Savadi, CC Patil and J Krishna Palemar- were found watching porn clips in the state assembly. They subsequently tendered resignation
February 11: The then Army chief General VK Singh, who had put his case on the row over his real death of birth on the pulpit of the Supreme Court, withdrew the petition after
