Drawing 101

As a graphic design major, many people may think that drawing is not a beneficial addition to my skill set considering that most of the work I do will be based in digital media, but there are particular aspects I have learned in Drawing 101 that are important factors to consider when dealing with graphic design. In this industry, it is crucial to be able to construct layouts and designs that are visually engaging and pleasing, and graphic designers are required to understand how to convey information effectively through the designs they create. Because of this I think the most important aspects of drawing for my major learned in this course are observing the relationships between color, creating a visually appealing composition using balance
When creating a design, it is not only important to consider what colors you use but where they are placed within your composition. The understanding of composition as an aspect of drawing was present in drawing 100 but only became essential to our work in drawing 101. We live in a visual society, so naturally the way something looks greatly effects the assumptions people make about it. This idea is the foundation of the graphic design industry, and a design that is unbalanced and that lacks good composition will often distract from or undermine its content and or purpose. In drawing 101 we learned how to use the space we were provided for our drawing most effectively, attempting to find the best way to crop and frame the subject we were given to make sure no area was left undeveloped. This is especially important when dealing with graphic design, because having a layout that isn’t well planned or balanced looks unprofessional and can cause people to become disinterested in your work. It’s all about visually highlighting the content, and a poor quality of design can make your audience assume the content is of poor quality as
