Dreams Compare and Contrast
Two things that can be so different, yet in a way alike, are Dreams and reality. Often, humans have mundane dreams about everyday things that happen in life, where it is almost impossible to differentiate between dreams and reality. Sometimes dreams can be so realistic, that it feels like it actually happened. Or even have a dream that is so unreal, that when the person wakes up, they have to constantly remind themselves that it was just a dream, and that there is nothing to worry about. The difference between dreams and reality might seem like totally different things, but actually, a dream could even feel more real than something in reality might. For example, a person might feel dizzy, that reality feels like just a dream, and vice versa. To be more specific, a dream is an abstract picture of the mind, and reality is something people physically see, feel, touch, smell, or hear. Another difference between the two is that dreams usually lack logic, detail, and continuity. Dreams and our reality are crucial to be able to differentiate, because getting mixed up constantly whether you are dreaming or in reality, is not fun!

They may recall an image or various images from the dream; however, they cannot describe how the images connected to encompass the dream (i.e., as one would tell a story). Alternately, they may describe vivid images, with powerful feelings associated with the image and experienced both in the dream and upon awakening (Marszalek, J., & Myers, J.,2006).” From the waking mind to what is left of the dream, a lot of extra information that makes it easier to interpret that dream through plausible explanations has been forgotten. However, the information that the brain has retained since waking can still be explained. Whether or not a dream fills a desire or highlights and magnifies certain stresses or worries from the day, all dreams can be interpreted to have a connection to one’s emotional state and experiences from past or present. If an individual is preoccupied with some emotion, over some dilemma or desire, his or her dream is likely to be focused on those emotions and distort experiences, while the brain compiles the imagery, emotion, and any stimulus into a gripping plot that reflects…

Dreams are often a way to find comfort in bad times by dreaming of what career path to take, how many children to have, or who to grow old with. The definition of a dream is a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep. It is believed that dreams have always existed in human society and have been shared among members of societies dating back to 3000-4000 BC. In various societies dreams held a number of meanings and significance. Throughout history dreams have been recognized as significant symbols or signs, warnings of the future, connections between living and the dead, capable of diagnosing illness and predicting onset of diseases, temptations of the devil, and numerous other possible things. Dream interpretations, or attempts made to understand a person’s dream, date back to 3000-4000 B.C., where they were documented on clay tablets. For as long as man has been able to talk about dreams, humans have been fascinated with them and have strived to understand them, though this is challenging because dreams are often so easily forgotten. Throughout the history of the study of dreams, famous theorists have presented their own dream philosophies and theories, developed eight specific categories of dream types, and presented many dreams found commonly among people which represent common aspects of life, all of these things have been developed in trying to answer one question: Do dreams reflect, or relate to, a person’s sub-conscious state of mind?…

Reality is the world or state of things as they actually exist. A person’s reality is made up of the brain interpreting stimuli from the 5 senses; from them the brain creates a scene one perceives as life. Reality, although formed through the basic building blocks of stimuli reception, is personal and individualized as reception varies from perception. These variations alter attitudes and outlooks on the basic notion of life itself. The idea of reality is challenged by the concepts presented in the movie Inception. Through the main character’s interactions with reception and perception, the viewer learns of crucial aspects of psychology including repression, the importance of sleep and dreams, as well as the perception and cognition of the…

Dreams play an important role in our lives. Dreams are an opportunity for us to experience a life with no limitations. However, not all dreams are meaningless fiction. Sometimes, a dream can be identical to everyday life. In some cases it is extremely difficult to tell the difference between a dream and reality. Throughout history, studies show that dreams provide an insight into one’s own self. Dreams can show us who we really are and what we want out of life by tapping into our subconscious mind. They have the ability to be inspirational, life changing, and revealing. Certain aspects of the story “Young Goodman Brown” lead us to believe that he is merely dreaming.…

We are prone to believing that what we see, taste, touch, smell, and hear is what is real, yet we are cognitively able to use these senses in our dreams. How do we recognize what reality is and what is just perception? The authors wanted people to be able to question everything that we are taught because there is a possibility that most of the “common sense” that we are taught is wrong. The author also wanted to show that knowledge is power, and knowledge can be gained only the individual who is not afraid to search. People who are still “plugged” into conformity and popular beliefs are those whose minds will remain in bondage. On the contrary, an anomaly will be the individuals who will have true freedom from society norms. This fact is what they…
