The large naval battleship known as the Dreadnought was created to crush enemy combatants in the sea. This ship was exceptionally proficient at what it did. This and, because of the influence of their people, they kept calling for the government to make more of them and this was a recurring event. The ship was also a symbol of their power at as whole since it showed their superiority over the other nations, mostly Germany, who were put into a naval arm race with Britain. These ships were a major factor in controlling the seas and restricting the amount of ships and goods that ventured into enemy territory. They all wanted to be on a fair playing field, which led them attempting to oneup each other. With every invention that Germany made, Britain and her allies followed up by making a counter to. An example of this would be when gas masks were created to cancel out the effects of the Germans mustard gas. Each newly made ship brought about new issues. The cost of building these ships slowly bankrupted the countries. This was especially the case for a place like Britain who was determined to have the best. However, their decision to overextend the making of these ships contributed heavily to their destruction. As stated on Wikipedia (Better to use where that quote actually came from) “So, Britain went into Dreadnoughts. In so doing, she bankrupted the Empire and lost her position as the world’s premier navy forever.” (Citation) This is clearly stating that these ships ended the war for them. As a wired article says, “They forced Germany to pour huge sums into its
