The reasoning behind this is that young girls’ bodies are distractions to their classmates, most notably the young boys of the classroom. This goes to show just how unjust the enforcement of dress codes is in our schools. School dress codes are imposing stereotypes and sexualizing the bodies of young girls in a place where every child should feel safe and comfortable to learn. School policies have become conflictive with the productive environment of a classroom and all because it is more important for girls to know they are at fault for boys not knowing how to pay attention and get their work done. When a young girl dresses as a princess for halloween, she’ll get a handful of candy and maybe even a dozen likes on Facebook, but does anyone tell her that her costume may be too sexually explicit because her shoulders are showing or even her ankles? Of course not, because that would be wrong, yet we expose girls to this treatment
