Dress Codes Persuasive Speech

Change is inevitable, unpredictable, and sometimes unbearable. However, if there was any thing that I could choose to change, the immediate thought that comes to mind is the overdramatic and downright oppressive dress codes of the school administration in today’s world. The issue at hand is that dress codes are not enforced fairly and subject young girls to public humiliation and slut shaming. Dress codes have become a method of teaching girls not to distract boys, which is a reflection of the fact that in the year 2018, we still blame women for the burden men put on them. The reasoning behind this is that young girls’ bodies are distractions to their classmates, most notably the young boys of the classroom. This goes to show just how unjust the enforcement of dress codes is in our schools. School dress codes are imposing stereotypes and sexualizing the bodies of young girls in a place where every child should feel safe and comfortable to learn. School policies have become conflictive with the productive environment of a classroom and all because it is more important for girls to know they are at fault for boys not knowing how to pay attention and get their work done. When a young girl dresses as a princess for halloween, she’ll get a handful of candy and maybe even a dozen likes on Facebook, but does anyone tell her that her costume may be too sexually explicit because her shoulders are showing or even her ankles? Of course not, because that would be wrong, yet we expose girls to this treatment
