DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Tamara Shepard

OBJECTIVE
• When interviewing for a job, your employer will form his first opinion of you based upon how you are dressed and your personal appearance. This is why it is important that you dress for success.

MAKING GOOD IMPRESSIONS
• Making a good first impression is important for building relationships with other people.
• A positive first impression is crucial for forging profitable, sustainable, long-term partnerships to help build the business and keep it thriving.

MEN ATTIRE
• Men generally dress according to job function and company culture. If you are in sales, marketing or law, for example, or if making presentations before audiences is your primary job function, appropriate dress most likely means neutral-colored, conservative business suits, white or light-colored shirts and neck ties

While you may shower each day, however, special attention to your hygiene should be made on interview days. If you are male, be sure to shave and trim your sideburns and beards or mustaches. Getting a haircut—whether male or female—is a good idea on the day before an important interview. Furthermore, you want to make sure your nails are trimmed. And if you are a woman, avoid flashy nail colors; again, this might distract the interviewer. Women should also avoid excessive make-up. Rather, use make-up only to accent your natural features, avoiding too much blush or too bright a lipstick. In addition to good attire, meticulous attention to your personal hygiene will greatly improve your chances of making a good impression in a job…

As a behavioral health rehabilitation specialist I have found that I dress very comfortably because my clients and I are continuously doing activities that require a lot of activities or crafts as it allows me to mingle with the children. I wear a Polo that represents my name and title so that I am not seen as an average adult with a bunch of children. I keep a strong and fun attitude but always professional. When the time comes and I have an office of my own, I will always carry myself with professionalism however I am not sure of the attire yet as I remember how I felt as a client walking into an office that I felt I was very beneath and walked out of feeling even more ashamed of being in the parking lot. This feeling is not how I want any of my clients to feel. I think you can be good at what you do despite what you…

A 12 year old girl walks into her first period class on a hot thursday in May. She is completely ready to study for the huge test she has tomorrow, but oh no, HER SHOULDERS ARE SHOWING! No students say anything to her because they are just as warm as her. They all mind their own business unaware of the fact that she is breaking the dress code. Until the teacher walks in, he looks around his classroom checking to see if their are any indecencies and sees little stephanie’s shoulders! He doesn’t know what to do, so he does what any good teacher would do, and calls her to the front of the room. “Stephanie are you aware that the whole school can see your shoulders? You must upkeep the dignity of this district and by wearing what you are doing the exact opposite of that.” He proceeds to spend the rest of the class talking about the dress code. Stephanie is forced to stand in front of the class for the duration speech. With the last ten minutes of class she is asked to go down to the nurse to get a more appropriate shirt on. By this time no one in the class got to study for the important test they would be taking the next day and stephanie has been on the verge of tears for a half an hour.…

A great deal of people define success as living a life of luxury with brand new expensive vehicles, a big beautiful home and so much money you couldn’t possibly spend it in this lifetime. I’m not one of those persons. I can define success in one word; stability. When you reach a point in your life where all your bills are paid, you have a roof over your head, even if it’s just a small studio apartment, and you’re not worried about where your next meal will come from, I believe you have become successful.…

Dedication applies in all aspects of life sports, school, and careers. Nothing in life that is worth having is ever easy and one has to work hard for what they want. Without the dedication to something, a person will never succeed. Having dedication means: being disciplined enough to make ones self workout even when life is stressful and exhausting, being able to block out all those people that say “you cant do it,“ and having the ability to get up after falling and keep working to achieve ones goals. When a person is truly dedicated, they don’t care about the parties, or going out with their friends. They don’t care about sleeping in; they will stay at the gym and go ass to the grass in squats until they can’t think straight. Every athlete strives to be the best they can be, but dedication plays a key role in being the best. Vince Lombardi considered by many to be the greatest coach that Football has ever seen says “the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand and the determination that whether we win or lose we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” A dedicated athlete puts everything they have into perfecting their craft. They always put forth one hundred and ten percent before and after practice. Athletes achieve their success knowing they put in years of hard work to attain it.…
