Driverless Car Essay
A driverless car also known as a self-driving car is an autonomous car that can sense its environment and navigate itself without any human intervention. No autonomous car relies on a single sensor because it wouldn’t be accurate. A perfect example of this is the Google’s self-driving car, it does not only rely on GPS data because it wouldn’t be accurate enough to keep the car on the road, let alone in the correct lane. Instead it uses eight different sensors to keep the individuals inside and the individuals surrounding it safe. Cars will become more efficient because of a slight chance of accidents occurring and therefore there wouldn’t be traffics or not as much as we have today and in terms of efficiency there would be a better traffic flow, but also less consumption. The reason there would be less consumption is when your idling or when you are in a traffic congestion you will be losing a horrendous amount of fuel mileage and not only that, but you are wasting gas, hurting the environment and your engine. Traffic congestion cost Americans about $124 billion dollars every year and it will increase to $186 billion dollars by the year 2030 if nothing is done about it. The truth is that your car consumes or uses more fuel when it’s speeding up or breaking down. When you find yourself stuck in a traffic congestion this is where your car really starts eating up gas. The constant acceleration and braking down when in a traffic jam causes pollutants into the air and cause to waste gas. The other way a self-driving car could possibly save money is by using many of its features, for example vehicles would most likely be connected to one another and this would allow them to communicate with themselves and with the surrounding infrastructures like traffic lights, stop signs, constructions and all this would lead to a better road space which would lead to a more efficient and cleaner
