In the military drones are referred to as a UAVs (Unmanned Ariel Vehicles) but to most people they are called drones. Drones are used in the military when having an actual pilot is deemed too dangerous. Although there is no pilot in the actual cockpit maneuvering the plane, there is a pilot controlling the plane through satellite signals. Drones provide all kinds of information for the military. There are different types of drones that have different functions. Some of the main uses of the drones are for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Drones provide quick real time information about what is happening in the environment below. They can track people of interest and carry out attacks on enemies through launching missiles at the targets with great accuracy. According to Micah Zenko’s “Evolution of the drone strike” in the last fifteen years, over 95% of all killing that were not on the battlefield have been conducted by drones, this is a very significant number as it has reduced the amount of infiltration the military has had to execute. The use of the drones for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance has helped improve their abilities to plan approaches to situations faster and more effectively based on the information they gather about environments natural landscape and what areas the enemies have occupied. The use of drones for intelligence decreases the presence of armed forces in potentially hazardous scenarios. Because of drones stealthy capabilities, enemies are unaware of the presence of the armed forces. This has caused turmoil in the world though as secrets that are obtained illegally through surveillance by drones which makes you beg the question of how beneficial drones are to the world
