Drunk Driving Everyone makes mistakes, its inevitable, but the difference between a mistake and a decision is that a decision can be preventable. Getting into a vehicle while intoxicated isn’t a matter of chance it’s of choice. Driving while under the influence is preventable, unfortunately most people underestimate the seriousness of Driving while under the influence, we think to ourselves “Oh that will never happen.” but unaccountably it does. Many lose loved ones and choose to live their lives with the loss but others decided to do something about it. Driving while under the influence has affected numerous people in a verity of ways, because of this there are programs and originations whose sole purpose is to bring awareness and decrease accidence nationwide. Mothers Against Drunk Driving otherwise known, as MADD is an organization dedicated to bringing awareness, as well as aiding others who have been victimized by an alcohol related car crash accident. Although MADD has changed there mission statement, it is now stated and I believe to be permanently kept as “The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.” Candy Lighter founded this organization in 1980 after a number of alcohol related crashes surprisingly happened in her family. After her youngest child was killed and the offender merely walked a way with a slap on the wrist, she decided to dedicate her life to families who have been affected by horrifying and preventable accidence like hers. At first her program was half-heartedly made fun of, a number of comedians would impersonate a drunk driving situation and would make insensitive jokes, but that did not stop Candy from a world wide program she has today. She wanted to change the publics attitude toward the seriousness of drunk driving, she wanted to show the public that drunk driving was not an acceptable inevitability. Candy accomplished these
