Statement of Purpose

After almost 2 and a half years of work experience as a software developer at zAxis, a firm that enables organizations to optimize performance and increase efficiency by managing knowledge, information & processes with intelligent computing solutions, I want to return to academics. And from the various range of courses available, postgraduate studies in Information Technology Solution(Database Development Profile) at Humber College matches my requirements in most of the areas as I want to enhance my knowledge in Databases.

After graduating from Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering, Mumbai University, the very first thing in my mind was to go for higher studies and the most obvious option was Masters in Computer Science from USA. I started preparing for entrance exams i.e. GRE and TOEFL, just after my graduation was completed but my score was not good enough to get into Universities I would have liked too, so I gave a thought of skipping application for the current year and give it a go in next year or so, by reappearing for entrance exams. A year for next fall application was a long period; therefore I opted for DOT NET Certification which I thought may help me for my Masters. The institute I chose was ATS InfoTech Pvt Ltd, as their teaching staff was very well known for the quality of knowledge they had in the their respective subjects and the institute was also providing Microsoft Certificates after successful course completion with a project at the end of course. Soon after course completion I was placed in zAxis Company through ATS. I felt I should gain some practical experience working in IT industry to gain first-hand knowledge of what the life of a software developer entails. I have loved every minute of my work; especially the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge projects and discuss ideas with seniors in the company. I soon realized that, although I enjoy handling the complex coding and processing the

To take a look back on this course and its overall impact it had I would have to say that it was very interesting and informative. This being my first time actually using Microsoft Access it was an interesting journey through these past eight weeks but it was a good interesting. The majority of databases I’ve dealt with have been Microsoft Excel in these last few years, they have been in areas of troop rosters and scheduling to training and other qualifications but besides that nothing in the lines of Access. After working with this program I do find it being very resourceful with its capabilities that it provides in the means of its information distribution especially over other programs that can be pulled in by copying their projects and tables actually into Access. I feel having the knowledge of using Access can be a huge resource for any company looking for a records manager which are most companies and from using Access these last few weeks I’ve found that the limits are endless with what can be done inside this program.…

I am from a middle class Indian family where bearing the costs of studying from an English medium school is hard and yet my parents helped me study in English medium school. I studied English medium during all my schooling which helped me develop my literacy skills. I started learning computers since my 10th grade. . This was the time of mid 1995 when the computer classes were first introduced in my school in India and I was one of the member of the first batches that was offered the basics of computer and little bit of programming. This was the beginning and I was getting interested to learn more about computers. We also had to take up a exam at the end of the course to prove our competency in the subject though it was not part of the 10th grade board exam. I scored 83 out of 100 which gave me confidence that I can succeed in this field of study. From there on during my 11th and 12th grade I took computer science as my specialization and also completed Bachelor’s Degree in computer science. After my graduation it was time to look for my dream job but consulting with friends, family and seniors in college I realized that the degree that I earned is not just enough to…
