Teaching in a Specialist Subject * Summarise key aims of education and training within your own specialist area. * Review and discuss the key philosophical issues associated with these. * Summarise key qualifications in your specialist area, and their structure. Outline your approach to the planning and preparation of a course within your specialism and justify how this meets the aims. * Discuss how well your approach to planning and preparation addresses inclusion within the course, and justify your approaches in relation to key curriculum issues (including the role of new and emergent technologies). * Analyse the way learning and teaching resources, including new/emergent technologies, meet the individual needs of learners in your specialist subject. Outline the resources that you use and justify the way(s) in which you use them (demonstrating their inclusiveness, for example) * Review opportunities for liaison with other professionals within your subject specialist area and review the impact off such liaison on your own practice. * Evaluate your own approaches to the subject specialism, identifying your strengths and development needs in relation to the knowledge and skills within the specialism. Discuss ways of enhancing your skills and knowledge in relation to the current demands of the specialism. * When concluding your essay, include reference to plans to take up opportunities to improve and update your own knowledge and skills in your specialist area.
My specialist area of teaching is Employability Skills, the qualification that the learners gain from this course is BTECH level 1 in supporting Employability and Personal Effectiveness. The aim of the unit is for the learners to develop their employability and personal effectiveness skills through involvement in a group project. The group project is used as a vehicle for the development of employability and personal effectiveness
