Due to globalisation, the world has become a much smaller place. As a result, the beliefs, values, customs and behaviors of individual countries are being lost.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Although it is generally acknowledged that the world has become smaller because of globalization, this can hardly be held true in many real-life situations. For this reason, I disagree with this statement.

It is undeniable that globalization has made the world smaller and can bring many benefits. Transportation provides a solid foundation for values changed. The technological improvements in transport have exerted an influence on values. In essence, this can develop and spread each country’s culture, customs and beliefs so that people from different countries have a better acquaintance with other countries’ history.

In fact, with the development of globalization, countries always find it difficult to be immune to global affairs. A telling example is there has been a growing trend that countries become more interdependent of one another. This has brought about many changes in behaviours of individual countries. However, globalization could fulfill a valuable function in this. As you can see, when countries cooperate with each other, they have to communicate a lot in their group first. This means the behaviours of their country has not lost. Countries should be given sufficient autonomy in deciding the behaviours they take as the case may be. Obviously, it is globalization and a smaller world that secure the traditions of individual countries.

To conclude, I concede that globalization can play an unfavorable role in improving the quality of people’s lives. Nevertheless, I am convinced that globalization does not lead to behaviours of individual countries will gradually disappear. This can bring some beneficial impacts on human beings.

Globalization refers to “worldwide interconnectedness, evidenced in global movements of natural resources, human labor, finance capital, information, infectious diseases, and trade goods” (Haviland, Prins, Walrath & McBride, 2008, p.19). Along with the movements of these products and peoples comes the traveling of ideas and beliefs also. The world seems to have become smaller due to the technological innovations in communication, travel, and availability of information. This interconnectedness between nations has especially allowed for modern nations such as the United States to have great influence on native non-Western countries. It has allowed for transformation not only in the economy of such societies but also has brought about changes in their cultures and values.…

Developments in Transport: Transport systems are the means by which people, materials and products are transferred from one place to another. With the increasing mobility of goods and people, it is important to have an efficient transport network worldwide, which includes airports, seaports, railways and highways to make it possible for goods to be moved around easily. As a result, developments in transportation technology have been a key driving force of Globalisation because the new developments in transport technology like airplanes and containerization have “shrunk” the world in terms of the time taken to get from one place to another making it easier and possible for goods to be moved around the world easily, enhancing the process by which people, their ideas and their activities become interconnected or integrated.…
