Duffys Forest is a northern Sydney suburb that sits about 28 kilometres from the central business district. It is part of the Northern Beaches and is also part of the Forest District. The biggest attraction and claim to fame for Duffys Forest is the Waratah Park Earth Sanctuary that was closed down in the 1970s due to the lack of tourists. This sanctuary was where they filmed the show, Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. In August of 2009, all animals were removed from the sanctuary and taken to safer habitats. Considered part of the Sydney Basin, Duffys Forest Ecological Community is considered an endangered ecological community. However, it is ideal for horse riding and boarding.

It was also once home to the television series Skippy the Bush Kangaroo in the late 1960s. It isn't visited by tourists or locals since it's been closed since the 1970s, but it's still a landmark and home to the legacy of the show and is maintained by volunteers. Most of the props from the show remain, but all the animals, including the kangaroos living in the sanctuary were removed and taken to new home.
